Currently reading: I’m about halfway through The Coward by Kyle R Bullock. This is the last ARC off my shelf and I’m enjoying it so far. It’s strange to be reading this at the same time as The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien. I’ve got to keep World War II and Vietnam separate in my mind! On audio, I just started is reading The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe, my next book club selection. It’s too early to tell how I’ll feel about this one.
Recently finished: I finally finished The Maze Runner by James Dashner Monday night. I wanted to throw the book at the wall. I get frustrated when a series doesn’t have good stopping points between books and this one sure didn’t! I can’t decide if I want to read the sequels or not. I also finished Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser on Monday (a big day for me). It was informative, well written, but not as captivating as I’d hoped for.
A big week for reviews as well! I covered O, Africa! by Andrew Lewis Conn as well as The Sandcastle Girls by Chris Bohjalian.
Reading Next: Still a good number. Looking for Alaska by John Green has yet to come in at the library so I hope to get that soon. And I want to start The Creation of Eve by Lynn Cullen soon. This will fulfill the 1500s time period of my When Are You Reading? Challenge. We’ll see after that.
The hubby and I are doing a massive bike tour this weekend so I hope to get something read before then! What are your three Ws? Leave a comment and let me know and check out the original post on MizB’s blog!

It’s strange because now that I’ve started it, I think I’ve read it before! A few of the small details feel really familiar. Maybe I read it back in high school? It’s possible. If I’m thinking of the right book, I really liked it, especially the end. I hope my memory is serving me well!

Sometimes there are titles I think I must have read because their plot or language is so familiar — but my memory is so bad, if it predates Goodreads, I’m never quite sure.

I keep wondering if I should be reading The Maze Runner, but nothing inspires me to read it.

It’s very plot driven and there are a lot of things left unanswered to get you to read the second book. Now that I’ve started, I want to finish so I have closure but I wish I hadn’t started. It’s really not that enjoyable.

The Maze Runner! Ha ha ha! Have you read my review? It’s pretty hilarious and sad. Needless to say, I’m on chapter 8 of Scorch Trials, and it’s waaaayyyy better than the Maze (sigh). I have serious OCD with finishing series.
Also not sure how sensitive you are with X-Rated books, but Looking For Alaska? Couldn’t finish it, it was so disturbing for me, a married mom, who loves God 🙂 I wrote a hilarious sad review on that one too. Gosh, books have not been very nice to me this year 😦

I just found your book review, I’ll have to take a look at it this afternoon. I’m OCD about series as well but I’m not sure I can finish this one. Three more books is a lot to gobble up if I’m not enjoying it!
It’s good to know that ‘Looking for Alaska’ might be a bit rough. My carpool buddy is a bit more conservative than I am and she might not enjoy it. I’ll have to talk to her about the content. What should I warn her of?

Okay:
1. Do you by chance watch The Walking Dead? I do, so the Scorch Trials is fun for me lol (zombie goodness)
2. Looking for Alaska? Explicit sexual content in the most descriptive way you could ever imagine! There were two major scenes. The first, two characters are watching pornography and Mr. Green decides to write all the grimy details, he must’ve been watching pornography as he wrote or something. The second scene was a full on oral sex scene, I burned the book there.
I felt so violated. Especially because there was no warning on the book cover or in the blurb! Nothing! I’ve changed the way I review books now because of this icky experience. I hope I never come across filthy content again though. (Sigh)

Strangely, I got the alert that the library had my hold since I last wrote. I’ll talk to my carpool buddy about it. I think I’d be fine (now that I’ve been warned!) but I don’t want to make her uncomfortable.

I hate to be continued endings, but at least the next one is out. I hadn’t planned to read the Scorch Trials, but I read the preview at the end of Maze Runner and couldn’t stop. (Then I had to read the Death Cure!) I personally didn’t like the sequels, but I think I’m the only one. There’s a prequel now too, but I haven’t read it.

My husband’s read all four and loved the sequels, not as much the prequel. I’m still on the fence about them! A fellow blogger liked the sequels more, which makes me want to read them, but I have so many other books I want to read first! Bookish problems.

I understand your feelings with The Maze Runner; it’s like he wants to force the reader to read the sequel, and I’m not too sure if I want to read the whole book just to find out what happened next…
Looking For Alaska is high on my list too. And I love bike tours by the way. 😀

I’m so back and forth on Maze Runner that I’m banning myself from thinking about it, haha. I’m really excited for this bike tour. It’s 60 miles each day over the weekend so I’m sure to be dead tired!

Haha that just might be the best way… I remember having a difficult time writing the review on The Maze Runner.
And wow, 60 miles is quite a lot! I love biking myself (the Dutch part in me 😉 ) and it always makes me feel better even if I’m dead tired afterwards.

Ah, The Maze Runner trilogy. I’ve gone through lots of comments for the books on Goodreads and I feel like you either love or hate them once you’re done! The pro point is that he keeps a fast pace so it’s easy to get absorbed in, but his writing itself can be hard to read and I wasn’t a fan of the direction the series ended up going in and how it ended. It did frustrate me.
On another note though it looks like you are reading some great books right now! Just added The Things They Carried to my Goodreads to-read shelf 🙂
