20 May

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at Should be Reading and revived here on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading. So, let’s get to it!

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

CloudAtlasCurrently reading:  Minor progress on La Sombra del Viento by Carlos Ruiz Zafon. Two more book club books coming my way so I can’t even promise I’ll get to this soon.
Still going with A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. I’ve been having to make a lot of calls in my care lately or have been with someone else so I’ve slowed this down a bit. I hope to pick it up again soon.
Things are going more quickly with The Girls at the Kingfisher Club by Genevieve Valentine. The plot is moving very quickly and I’m really enjoying it.
I started a new eBook, Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. I’m really excited about this one because it’s been #1 on my TBR for about a year now. I tried starting it once  a while back and never made it past page five. I’m beyond that already now. This should be a fun ride.
I’ve got a new book club selection as well.  The Bohemians by Ben Tarnoff. Not too far into it yet and I’m excited that it will help me fulfill the 1800s for my When Are You Reading? Challenge. I need to focus on this one more.

OceanRecently finished: I absolutely flew through Waiting to be Heard: A Memoir by Amanda Knox. I haven’t read a memoir in a while and it was really refreshing. Knox’s story is fascinating, even if what I read was biased and has been called into question. I hope to review it soon.
I also finished The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman. This was a great little story. It was a bit more fantastical than I was anticipating, but I still enjoyed it a lot.

I wrote one review this week, Left Behind by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins. Take a look and let me know what you thought of these books.

WidowReading Next: My work book club selected our next book and it will be A Widow for One Year by John Irving. I’m stupidly excited for this selection because it’s off of my TBR and Irving is my favorite writer of all time. I can’t get my hands on it soon enough!

Leave a comment with your link and a comment (if you’re so inclined). Take a look at the other participant links in the comments and look at what others are reading.

Have any opinions on these choices?

Until next time, write on.

A fabulous selection of books, as ever. I read a Widow For One Year ago quite a few years back and loved it! Here is my Wednesday post https://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2015/05/20/this-week-in-books-may-20/

    Wow! That’s a heavy TBR pile! 🙂

I found La Sombra del Viento a bit hard going at first, but worth sticking with. And I’m pleased to say I’m up to date with Game of Thrones (was disappointed with the last one though).

This is the first time I’m taking part in this fantastic activity! Here’s my WWW Wednesday post: https://clairehuston.wordpress.com/2015/05/20/www-wednesday/

      Welcome!
I think part of my struggle with ‘La Sombra del Viento’ is the long time I’m taking between reading it. I keep forgetting what’s happening. I’m liking Game of Thrones so far but I’m not sure if I’ll still be so excited about it on the fourth book and a 40 hour audio. It seems daunting! Happy Wednesday.

I loved Cloud Atlas – although it took me three attempts before I really got into it – watching the film helped! Here’s my Wednesday post – http://www.booksplease.org/2015/05/20/this-week-in-books-20-may-2015/

I’m on try #2 to be honest. The style of this first section is a bit hard to read. I hope it’s all worth it once I get through. Happy Wednesday!

I read The Ocean at the End of the Lane about a year ago and LOVED it- how does Neil Gaiman think of such unique stories? I’ve always had my eye on Cloud Atlas, but I just haven’t gotten around to actually reading it. Here’s my WWW Wednesdays post: http://nutfreenerd.com/2015/05/20/www-wednesdays-may-20th/

I’m not sure if I loved it enough to read all his other books, but I did enjoy it. I guess I wasn’t prepared for how much fantasy would be involved in it. Happy Wednesday!

You’re reading so many books at once. Go you!!! But you need to make progress on Carlos Ruiz Zafon. I promise it’s worth it 😀

Memoirs are always intriguing, so I will definitely add this one to my wishlist! I read Don’t Tell Mummy recently, a memoir about child abuse… In a way disturbing and I feel sorry for the author she had such a terrible childhood, but it was very well written.

I read ‘A Child Called It’ when I was younger which was also about child abuse. I’m not sure my conscious could take any more!

I know what you mean; I will probably stay away from child abuse themed books for a while… One thing is to know there are some sick bastards out there; reading the actual facts is truly depressive.

I loved Cloud Atlas! The narrative structure was really cool and I thought the characters were pretty compelling. And I’m really curious to read your review of Waiting to Be Heard since it’s on my Maybe Read list.

You have some really great reads on your list! I read about 100 pages into Game of Thrones, and I was not interested in what I was reading, so I stopped. Maybe one day I’ll pick it up again, but not likely. The Ocean at the End of Lane is on my TBR list, and one of these days I’ll get around to reading it, lol. 😀

Thanks for stopping by my WWW.

I don’t know if I would pick up a physical copy of GoT, but the audiobook is right up my ally. ‘Ocean’ is a really good quick read, I think I finished it in four days without trying too hard. Happy Wednesday!
