Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at Should be Reading and revived here on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading. So, let’s get to it!

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

TrailCurrently reading:  I’m almost done with A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin. I was able to find a chapter by chapter summary online to figure out where I am. This should be finished in the week.
Not much movement with Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. Part II is a bit more interesting, but there are still other things I’d rather read. Oh well.
Moderate progress on Harry, a History by Melissa Anelli on my phone. This is an interesting balance of history and personal story and I like it, but I’m not crazy for it.
I started a new book! It’s a Goodreads First Reads book I received a long time ago and I’m overdue for a review. It’s On the Okey Dokey Trail by I. Leigh Private. Yes, I do like the pun in the name.

Recently finished: I finally finished La Sombra del Viento by Carlos Ruiz Zafon! This is my one book a year in Spanish and I liked the ending a lot. I’m not sure how good of a review I can write because I don’t remember the beginning well, but we shall see. Stay tuned for that one.

And two book reviews! Look at me. I wrote one for The Girls at the Kingfisher Club by Genevieve Valentine last week. I hope I can convince a few more people to read it. I finished one for The Bohemians by Ben Tarnoff earlier this week. It’s OK to skip that one.

HotelReading Next: Change of plans. Though I’d been planning on a John Irving book with my work book club, that’s not going to happen. I took a new job! I’ll be sad to leave those ladies and I’ll miss what they had to say about the books we read, but I’m going to put that book back on the shelf for a while. It would be a bit painful to read it now if I’m being honest. I think instead I’ll focus on Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford which is a selection for my book club. I recommended this historical fiction selection and I’m excited to read it.

Leave a comment with your link and a comment (if you’re so inclined). Take a look at the other participant links in the comments and look at what others are reading.

Have any opinions on these choices?

Until next time, write on.

As always a fantastic selection and as much as I loved the John Irving you have swapped it for another equally good, if very different read. Here is my Wednesday post https://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2015/06/17/this-week-in-books-june-17/

I’m sad to put John Irving aside for now. Good news is that my book club girls are trying to figure out a way we can stick together and maybe meet on weekends so it might come back to the list! Happy Wednesday.

Pleased to see you made it to the end of La Sombra del Viento 🙂 I can understand why you would need a chapter summary for Game of Thrones. By the time you get into the series you need maps and family trees to keep up with everything.

    Congratulations on your new job!

I’m glad to have finished it as well! It was a long journey. It’s exciting to be so close to the end on GoT. I’m excited to see how the first book will end! The new job starts in July and my nervous/excitement is mounting! Happy Wednesday!

I haven’t started it yet; I’ll probably read it after my current read so I can time up starting it with my book club. I think it sounds really interesting as well! Happy Wednesday!

That’s why I haven’t started it yet or Outlander! I own both books, but they are so big that I get scared hahaha.

      • Sam June 17, 2015 at 3:32 PM #

I’ve done both on audio because it seems less intimidating, haha.

I’m glad you enjoyed La Sombra Del Viento! I might reread this one as well this year since I really need to start reading more books in Spanish again. And good to hear you’re almost finished with A Game Of Thrones.

Happy reading and thanks for visiting my WWW!

    • Sam June 17, 2015 at 3:43 PM #

Thanks for encouraging me through it! It’s a great Spanish read. Happy Wednesday!

It’s neat that you read a book in Spanish. Sometimes I feel like a lot of substance within a book gets lost in the translation process.

I’m in the middle of the Song of Ice and Fire series and have been struggling to motivate myself to read A Feast for Crows. Hope you enjoy A Game of Thrones!

Thanks for joining in! Great to have someone new. I hope to soon struggle through the sequels myself. The series is enjoyable if long. Happy Wednesday!

I feel so bad that I haven’t been able to do WWW for a while, but my work took over my life completely…
Congrats on finishing La Sombra del Viento. And I do plan to listen to The Girls at the Kingfisher Club thanks to your review.
I’m sorry you’re not enjoying Cloud Atlas, but I think you’ll really like Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet – it’s been a couple years since I read it, but I remember it being very good.

    • Sam June 21, 2015 at 2:49 PM #

I hope things calm down for you and you can relax a bit. I hope you enjoy Kingfisher. I want it to become a word of mouth book. I think I’m starting to enjoy ‘Cloud Atlas’ more as the plot advances. Fingers crossed. And I’m looking forward to Hotel; good to hear you enjoyed it. Happy reading!

I LOVED the English translation of Shadow of the Wind- and am very impressed you made it through the original, especially as someone who’s sitting through children’s picture books with my daughter in an attempt to revive whatever foreign language skills I used to have!

    • Sam June 27, 2015 at 8:21 AM #

Hahaha I majored in it in school and since I don’t use it for my job, I try to practice as much as possible. One book a year is a good place to start. Happy reading!

By the way, I read one of his young adult books, which I loved, but very few of them had been translated at the time, so I had to wait too long for more. The one I had was a short but still intelligent read, similar in style to Shadow of the Wind, mostly just shorter.
