Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at Should be Reading and revived here on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading. So, let’s get to it!
The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
Currently reading: I haven’t had much time for A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab but I’m still enjoying the story. The main action is just starting and Kell and Lila just got to Red London together. I can tell it’s about to pick up quickly.
Again, small progress One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. I’m not really getting into this one which is unfortunate because it’s keeping me from the books I want to read after it. I just need to power through but then I have to find the time! Ugh.
Decent progress with Dead Wake: The Last Crossing of the Lusitania by Erik Larson due to errands and going out with my girlfriends a few times this week. I can feel the attack coming and I’m super anxious about it. I don’t know as much about this wreck as I do others so I’m not completely sure how devastating it will be.
Recently finished: I was able to finish I Am Malala by Malala Yousafzai faster than I thought. The last 40 pages were a reader’s guide and some pictures which I skipped and flew through respectfully. I liked Malala’s words to describe the situation in Pakistan. I gave it 4 out of 5 stars. Look for a review early next week.
I posted a review for David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas last Thursday. I’m glad that one is finally over! It’s been hanging over my head for months.
Reading Next: Still Harry Potter y el misterio del príncipe (Half-Blood Prince) by J.K. Rowling. As soon as I get through Marquez, I can’t wait to pick this up. I feel like I’m losing my Spanish a bit so reading it will help me with that. I hope.
I need a new ebook now that I’m done with Malala. I put holds on a few titles but I’m hoping the one that comes up next is Truth and Beauty by Anne Patchett. Someone recommended this title to me when I was talking about how much I love writer memoirs so I’m excited to read it.
Leave a comment with your link and a comment (if you’re so inclined). Take a look at the other participant links in the comments and look at what others are reading.
Have any opinions on these choices?
Until next time, write on.
You can follow me on Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram. I’m available via email at SamAStevensWriter@gmail.com. And as always, feel free to leave a comment!

I want to read the Malala book a lot. I am quite fascinated by her ever since she appeared on The Daily Show (haha) Congrats on reading a book in Spanish! I wish I knew enough to do that! 🙂 Thanks for hosting this meme. Here’s my WWW http://www.greysanatomyblog.com/2016/01/www-wednesday-2-january-13-2016.html

I’ll stick with it for sure. I’m leading the discussion for my book club so I’d like to finish it before then, but if I can’t, I’ll still take it to the end. Happy Wednesday!

Dead Wake looks interesting. I just followed your link to Goodreads and think I might enjoy reading it. You seem to be good at sticking with a book you don’t particularly like. I can’t do that – I give a book about 50 pages and if I’m not hooked I go on to something else. Apart from War and Peace! Thanks for hosting WWW Wednesday. I have a lot of trouble abandoning a book. I keep hoping it will get better. Plus, a book club book always makes me finish it so I can go to the meeting. I hope you like Dead Wake, I just started the 8th of 10 disks. Happy Wednesday!

Good luck if you’re going to persevere with 100 Years of Solitude. I stuck with it even though I wanted to throw it at the wall!
Hearing you mention ADSOM and the action about the kick off (you’re right: it is) makes me want to find time to re-read it before the sequel comes out. I love that book.

I’ll get through Marquez but it might take some dedicated time this weekend. Happy Wednesday!

I hope you can get through One Hundred Years of Solitude – I read many years ago after really enjoying Love in the Time of Cholera, but I remember it feeling like a bit of a chore to get through. The Ann Pratchett memoir sounds brilliant, I’m definitely going to add that one to my list.

Hi,
I am new. Just joined WIPpet and posted my excerpt.
I have two books by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Memories of My Melancholy Whores and One Hundred Years of Solitude. I plan to read both of them this year.

I’m planning to read A Darker Shade of Magic later this year. I’ve heard great things about it. I have read I Am Malala. Her story is amazing and I think she conveyed it well through her writing. Sometimes it’s hard to get those real emotions across right, but she handled it well. I’m eager to read your review of it! Reading Harry Potter in Spanish sounds interesting. Are there any big differences between the Spanish and English version?

I thought Malala did well, too. My review goes up on Monday. There’s never a major difference in the translation. If there’s a pun or comment based on a double-meaning of the word (Weasley – Weasel) then the translator will make an adjustment but never something that changes the plot. Happy Wednesday!

Awesome, can’t wait! That’s good. Yeah, puns and jokes don’t always have equivolents. I’ve read some books where there’s footnotes explaining what the original joke/pun was and how it’s funny in the original language of the book.
Thanks!
