Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at Should be Reading and revived here on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading. So, let’s get to it!
The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
Note: For users of Blogspot blogs, I’m unable to comment on your posts as a WordPress blogger unless you’ve enabled Name/URL comments. Please consider this to participate more fully in the community.
Currently reading: I’m back to Harry Potter y el misterio del príncipe (Half-Blood Prince) by J.K. Rowling and am really loving it. It’s fun to read in Spanish. I read it out loud at night to practice pronunciation and sounding out words I don’t know. My husband has no idea what I’m saying until a word like ‘Harry’ or ‘Hogwarts’ pops up and sometimes he laughs. I like it.
Slow progress Slaughterhouse-Five by Kurt Vonnegut. I’m able to get a few pages at a time read while I’m eating lunch, but it’s very minimal, really. This could take me a while.
I lost my eaudio of A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin. Now I have the physical disks but I’m reluctant to put in the time to find my spot in it. I’m hoping I get the eaudio back soon and I don’t have to worry about it. I left the files on my phone hoping it would come in soon.
Recently finished: I finished Shanghai Girls by Lisa See Thursday night. I really liked it, but I wasn’t a fan of the ending. I believe that books in a series should be complete stories in and of themselves instead of feeling like one long book arbitrarily cut in half to make for a reasonably sized novel. I felt like this one cut off too suddenly and had no resolution of it’s own so I was frustrated. Review to come next week.
Reading Next: I’m not sure I’ll have time to start Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling before I have to pick up yet another book club read. I’m giving myself two weeks to push through it but I’m thinking it will take longer than that. If I do have to pick up another book club selection first, it’s going to be Norwegian by Night by Derek B. Miller. I’ve never heard of this book before but it looks interesting, maybe a bit like Out Stealing Horses? We’ll see.
Leave a comment with your link and a comment (if you’re so inclined). Take a look at the other participant links in the comments and look at what others are reading.
Have any opinions on these choices?
Until next time, write on.

I think reading HP in Spanish is a great idea. I remember slogging my way through a couple of books in French when I was studying it but they weren’t very enjoyable. HP would have been much better.
Anyway, here’s my WWW. https://iwuvbooks.wordpress.com/2016/03/02/www-wednesday-2nd-march-2016/

The bright side is HP is very easily available in so many languages that getting a copy was no problem. It’s a great way to practice the language. Happy Wednesday!

Like you I think even books in a series should have a complete ending in their own right! Here is my Wednesday post for this week https://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2016/03/02/this-week-in-books-march-2/

I’m glad someone else agrees with me. Cut-off endings are so frustrating. Happy Wednesday!

I agree with you about how each book in a series should still have an ending in their own right. I’ve given up on a few series over the years where I felt I’ve just been left hanging, it really annoys me. I hope you get your eaudio of A Clash of Kings back soon.

Listening to it in the car is just too slow. I have a short drive to and from work so I don’t get near enough listening time in. It’s frustrating! Happy Wednesday.

What a shame, I hope you can somehow squeeze some more listening time in or otherwise switch to a print book to read it.

I totally know what you mean about series where it feels like it’s one book cut into bits. So annoying!

I love the idea of you reading aloud in Spanish and your husband being bemused! That wouldn’t work in my case… he’d just roll his eyes and correct my pronunciation (I can’t roll my ‘r’s. I just can’t do it. Really ruins my Spanish pronunciation!).

I had a pronunciation class where being able to roll your ‘R’s was VERY important. It was a great class but a few people really struggled with that part, it’s super hard for an English speaker! Happy Wednesday.

Really good idea to read aloud to practice your language skills; I’ve never read a book in another language so kudos to you. What an achievement that will be when you finish.

I’m going to feel the accomplishment most when I finish the series! I’m not doing it at any speed so it might be another year before I pick up book 7, but I know it’ll happen eventually. Happy Wednesday!

I don’t mind a series book ending with a cliff-hanger, but I agree with what you said about each book being a stand alone.

At least having some kind of resolution between books. Cutting it off like that makes me wonder why it wasn’t published as one book. Happy Wednesday!

I agree completely about books in a series needing their own conclusions. They should be split because they’re separate books not to cut down on length.

Thank you! I want to ask her why she chose to publish them as two books when I meet her, but that would require me to read the second one very soon and I don’t think I have the time. Happy Wednesday!

I also agrre with you on books needing their own ending even in a series. Wouldn’t want to just cut off and having to wait a year to pick that story up again 😦
