4 May

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at Should be Reading and revived here on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading. So, let’s get to it!

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think youโ€™ll read next?

Note: For users of Blogspot blogs, I’m unable to comment on your posts as a WordPress blogger unless you’ve enabled Name/URL comments. This is a known WordPress/Blogspot issue. Please consider enabling this to participate more fully in the community.

ClashofKingsCurrently reading: I hope to get back to Harry Potter y el misterio del prรญncipe (Half-Blood Prince) by J.K. Rowling soon. It’s sitting on my bedside tale for now.
I’m making great progress with A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin. I’m about four hours from the end and in the midst of the final battle. I got the eaudio back and the battle is great listening during my long runs!
I got through a bit of In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson but nothing to brag about. I’ll be working on this one for a while!
I’m really enjoying The Virgin Blue by Tracey Chevalier. I always love her books so no surprise to me here. I’m hoping I can tear through this one and get back to Harry!

Child44Recently finished: I finished two books! The first was Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith which I got through just a few days after my book club meeting last week. I was so close to finishing in time, but it slipped past me. Oh well. I wasn’t a big fan of the book. My review went up yesterday where I explained why I gave it 2 out of 5 stars. I’ve still got a book-to-movie review and a book club reflection to write on this one so it will be around for a bit.
The other book I finished was Silver Sparrow by Tayari Jones which I loved! The book was really well written and I loved the characters. A full 5 out of 5 stars. My review is already up for this one so check it out.

AskingReading Next: I’ll be grabbing my next book club selection, The Art of Asking by Amanda Palmer. I haven’t decided if I’ll do the physical or audio copy yet, but I’m leaning toward audio so I can fee myself up to finish Harry and work on some other books I’ve been waiting to read.

Leave a comment with your link and a comment (if you’re so inclined). Take a look at the other participant links in the comments and look at what others are reading.

Have any opinions on these choices?

Until next time, write on.

I’m really tempted to read the Game of Thrones books, mostly because the TV series isn’t following the story line any more. They are so long, though, and I’ve heard that some parts are quite slow. I don’t know if I have the time! :/

    Here’s mine: https://sarinalangerwriter.com/2016/05/04/www-wednesday-4th-may-2016/

    Happy reading!! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Sam May 4, 2016 at 5:52 PM #

I’m going to take about a year per book I think. Having the audio helps it go faster because some parts are slow for me. Happy Wednesday!

  2. TheBookishUnderdog May 4, 2016 at 5:12 AM #

I really wish I could get into Game of Thrones but I just find the storylines so confusing! I even find the show confusing so I probably won’t ever have much luck with the books XD

    • Sam May 4, 2016 at 5:55 PM #

I haven’t seen the show but I find it hard to remember what was going on the last time I visited that character because of the number of speakers. I understand the confusion! Happy Wednesday!

I’m so glad you’re enjoying The Virgin Blue. I need to put her latest release on my TBR as she hasn’t let me down yet (although some of her books are definitely better than others).

Sorry to hear about Child 44. I’ll look forward to your book-to-movie review and hearing whether the talents of Tom Hardy can do anything to improve on your experience with the book!

Tom Hardy helped, but Noomi Rapace killed it! I hope to finish ‘The Virgin Blue’ this weekend. Happy Wednesday!

Been a while since I’ve done one of these but this is mine.https://bookloverwormblog.wordpress.com/2016/05/04/www-wednesdays-2/

I love Harry Potter and am watching rather than reading Game of Thrones, though I may read them when the tv series is finished, but I find your other book really interesting. They’re such diverse choices and quite different from what I usually read.

    • Sam May 4, 2016 at 6:24 PM #

I’ve been told I must watch GoT but I want to read them first and that’s taking quite a while. Welcome back! Happy Wednesday.

      • Sandra May 4, 2016 at 6:39 PM #

It could take a long while to get through the books since the latest one keeps getting delayed! The tv series is excellent, definitely worth watching and I expect it will be around for a while after it ends.

Ooh, I didn’t know Amanda Palmer had written a book. I find her a very interesting person (wouldn’t call myself a fan, though I like some of her music), so I’ll be interested to hear your thoughts on that one.

Here’s my post for the week: https://keysandopenmind.wordpress.com/2016/05/04/www-wednesday-may-4-2016/

Out book club moderator is a big fan of Neil Gaiman and her by association. I’ll have to see how it goes. Happy Wednesday!

You are really into audio books now it seems, I should give it a try too someday, when I figure out how it works (I suppose it only works with ipad, not with my favourite Kobo reader).
    Here’s my WWW list:

    • Sam May 4, 2016 at 6:29 PM #

I listen to my audiobooks on my phone. With how busy my life’s been, they’re a good option for while I’m running, cooking, or driving. Happy Wednesday!

  7. alilovesbooks May 4, 2016 at 7:06 AM #

I’m starting to think audio book may be the way to go with the Game of Thrones books as the size of the physical books just intimidates me. It must be a lot of hours though? Do they have a good narrator?

Unfortunately the library has taken back all of my audios for the moment so I’m back to mostly ebooks.

    • Sam May 4, 2016 at 6:48 PM #

They’re over 30 hours each but the narrator is amazing, probably the best I’ve heard. Enjoy you’re books! Happy Wednesday!

I’m afraid I fall into the small minority who has no interest in GOT either but I do like the look of Child 44 (which you didn’t rate)

    • Sam May 4, 2016 at 8:31 PM #

I gave it 2 out of 5 as I said. It wasn’t for me, to be honest. I’m not a thriller fan and the narrator grated on me. Happy Wednesday!

It’s not my normal read so I’m going through the series slowly. It’s definitely not for everyone. Happy Wednesday!

  12. rainandcheese May 4, 2016 at 9:52 AM #

Sounds like a glum line of recent reads. Would love to hear your thoughts about Amanda Palmer’s book. I’m very curious about that one(and what it’s really all about). Love love the cover~

    • Sam May 4, 2016 at 8:35 PM #

I started it today and so far it’s interesting. I don’t know much about her besides that she’s married to Neil Gaiman so I’m sure I’ll learn a lot. Happy Wednesday!

  13. Clare Stone May 4, 2016 at 10:05 AM #

I haven’t heard of Silver Sparrow but it sounds like I should check it out!

    • Sam May 4, 2016 at 8:35 PM #

It’s really great and I recommend it. Happy Wednesday!

  14. rathertoofondofbooks May 4, 2016 at 10:12 AM #

I’ve had The Art of Asking on my TBR for a while now but still haven’t got around to reading it, I’ve only heard great things about it though so I hope you enjoy it. It’s a shame you didn’t enjoy Child 44 – I listen to audiobooks too and the narrator can really alter how you end up feeling about a book.
I hope you have a good week ahead filled with books ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Sam May 4, 2016 at 8:43 PM #

I warn you it’s not very glowing and may have some spoilers! Happy Wednesday!

  19. charliegirlteachergirl May 4, 2016 at 11:21 AM #

I need to start cleaning up my audiobooks. I think I need to just start over with The Reluctant Assassin because I’m struggle to remember what even happened since I’ve had it on hold so long. YAY for finishing books! I finally finished some this past week!

    • Sam May 4, 2016 at 8:45 PM #

I struggled to remember the beginning of ‘A Clash of Kings’ after waiting so long for it. I think I managed, though. Happy Wednesday!

I hope you can! The library has it on Hoopla if you would want to try the audio. I thought it was really well done. Happy Wednesday!

  21. wolfbooks May 4, 2016 at 1:29 PM #

I loved A Clash of Kings, I definitely need to get back into the books though. I took a break after reading the third book 2 years ago, yikes!
My post definitely showcases the slow reading I’ve been doing recently but at least I’m reading!

    • Sam May 4, 2016 at 8:50 PM #

Any reading is better than none! I’ll probably take 9 months or so before I read the next GoT book. There are a lot of other books I want to read first. Happy Wednesday!
