3 Aug

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived here on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading. So, let’s get to it!

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Note: For users of Blogspot blogs, I’m unable to comment on your posts as a WordPress blogger unless you’ve enabled Name/URL comments. This is a known WordPress/Blogspot issue. Please consider enabling this to participate more fully in the community.

5LL-7.09.F.inddCurrently reading: I read about a chapter of In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson. My husband is out of town for a few days which might give me some time to read while I’m eating dinner alone. I’ll keep my fingers crossed that I make a little progress here.
Peace Breaks Out by John Knowles is a short book and I’m hoping to finish it before this weekend when I head out of town. Then I can take just my ‘next’ book with me and not worry about running out of reading material. Maybe I’ll send another book ahead just in case…
The audiobook I want to listen to next has a hold on it, so in the meantime, I’m going to listen to The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman. I had a roommate in college who read this and talked to me about how it helped her relationship with her boyfriend and ever since, I’ve been interested in listening to it myself. It’s a shorter audiobook so I hope I can power through it before the other hold comes in.

626F6F78747265616D=7474747474727576707<7473Recently finished: I finished off two! The first was 10% Happier by Dan Harris. This was a cross between a memoir and a self-help book. I liked it, but I wasn’t convinced to start meditating, not just yet. I understand how mindfulness might help a person and I understand there are proven health benefits, but I’m still a skeptic. I struggle to fit in my five minutes a day of prayer! We’ll see how that goes. Review will be up soon.
I don’t know how I could have blanked on this, but another WWW reminded me that Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling would be released before this week’s WWW. I’ll post soon about the release party I went to and I’ll add that I finished it about 14 hours after starting it. The book reads really fast because of the formatting and it was one I want to reread soon because speeding through it, I’m sure I missed something.

WithoutEndReading Next: I’ll be taking In One Person by John Irving with me on vacation this weekend. I’m not sure if it’s much of a beach read, but I’m really looking forward to diving into Irving. I love his crazy-twisted books.
The next audiobook I plan to undertake is World Without End by Ken Follett. This will be a long trek and I’m ready to make it because I enjoyed the first book so much. I’ll likely lose the hold and have to come back to it a few times, but I hope it will be worth it in the end.

Leave a comment with your link and a comment (if you’re so inclined). Take a look at the other participant links in the comments and look at what others are reading.

Have any opinions on these choices?

Until next time, write on.

I’ll look forward to your post about the HP launch party Sam – here is my Wednesday post for this week https://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2016/08/03/this-week-in-books-august-3/

I have decided to finally read the HP series. The excitement around the release of the new book just made me want to know what it is about the series that has made it have so many fans. The party that you mentioned sounds like fun.I look forward to your post about it. I think 5 Languages of Love is a wonderful book. Certain things click when you read it because it gives insight on relationship on how different people react to expressions of love and all that. I hope that you will enjoy the book.

I was talking to my boss about the book today and he mentioned how he observes that in his own marriage. It’s really great. Hope you enjoy Harry. He’s my favorite. Happy Wednesday!

  3. I’m looking forward to your Harry Potter post. I’m still on the fence as to whether I want to read The Cursed Child or hold out and in the distant future try and get tickets to see it! Reading a script is never quite the same as seeing the stage production and I’m not sure I’d enjoy it. So I’ll wait to hear what you think 🙂

You’re close enough to London that holding out makes sense. For us Yanks, this feels like the only chance to hear the story. If I could see it, I would try for that in a heartbeat. Good luck getting tickets. Happy Wednesday!

I always struggle with the whole eating and reading at the same time thing, although it doesn’t stop me trying 🙂

Will be interested to see what you think of HP. For some reason I can’t quite get into the buzz around it so I’m not sure if I want to read or not. I know doubt will but I’m not rushing.

I really enjoyed the story and how separate it is from the other novels. If you cave soon, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Happy Wednesday!

I’m not as into HP as I was as a teenager, but I have read enough reviews that have convinced my I am going to have to read Cursed Child as well to see what it’s like. I’ll look forward to your posts about it. I wish I could see the play, though; plays are written to be performed, not read!

I was able to keep a mental-play running while I read the screenplay but I wish I could see it. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Happy Wednesday!

  8. Clare Stone at 7:01 AM #

I want to reread The Cursed Child already as well but my whole family are making their way through my copy first! I speed-read it and I definitely think I will get more out of it next time!

    • Sam at 5:57 PM #

I tried to read it slowly, but let’s be real. I read it as fast as I could! My husband is going to read it soon so we can discuss. Happy Wednesday!

  9. TrainOfThought at 7:13 AM #

I want to see the play of The Cursed Child really soon. The script book doesn’t really intrigue me. Look forward to your HP post!

  10. The Follett novel is on my list of some day novels. It’s a major commitment because of its length, but I’ve heard it’s worth it. Enjoy!

I’m going to be diving into the Cursed Child! I absolutely cannot wait to read it 🙂 I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it! Good luck with World Without End. I have Pillars on my bookshelf waiting to be read. I’m just looking for the right time to go for it 🙂
    Happy Reading 🙂

Enjoy CC! It’s really fun and I’m thinking of rereading it as soon as I can. Follett is a great writer, he just seems to go on for a while. Happy Wednesday!

Cursed Child is staying on my bookshelf until I see the play in December, so I’m quite jealous of everyone who have already read it!
Also interested to see what you think of World Without End. I’ve read the Fall of Giants series by Ken Follett and loved the first two, but hated the last one which has put me off reading more of his books.

I’m so jealous that you’re going to see it! Getting across to the UK is a bit out of my budget so I’m settling for the book. I loved ‘The Pillars of the Earth’ by Follett and I’m looking forward to this sequel. Happy Wednesday!

Still trying to make my mind up about whether or not I’m going to read the Cursed Child. I love Harry Potter but the idea of reading a play script… I’ll probably cave to the hype eventually, though!

    • Sam at 6:27 PM #

Welcome! Yes, it’s a bit different to be sure, but it’s still Harry and still Rowling and I still loved it. Happy Wednesday!

I can’t wait to read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I do hope to one day see it performed, too, because there’s a difference between reading a play and watching it, but I’m excited to devour it in every form I can. Good luck getting through everything!
