Currently reading: So far not much at all with In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson. I’d be happy to finish this before the end of the year, but I’m not sure even that will happen!
Still on hold with World Without End by Ken Follett. I’ve got to be getting it back soon, right? The only problem is when to listen to it now that I have two other audiobooks going!
Stiff by Mary Roach has been a fun read. I’m getting close to the end and it’s safe to say I learned a lot but it hasn’t always been things I think I’ll use in my daily conversations. Roach has a great style and I’m curious about her other books now.
I’m getting close to the end of The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing by Marilyn Durham. There’s only been one part so far I didn’t think was believable but I’ve really enjoyed this book.
It will be a slow go with Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald by Therese Anne Fowler only because I’m not planning on driving a lot any time soon and this one is in my car only. I like the story and the narrator is great but this will be here a while.
Recently finished: As expected, after last week’s tidal wave, noting finished this week. I think a few will be here next week so I’m optimistic.
Reading Next: My book club met Monday and I’ve been reminded that my next book will be The Lost Daughter by Elena Ferrante. I have another of her books on my shelf that I haven’t gotten to yet but it comes highly recommended so I’m excited to start with this shorter title.
I’m in need of some help to finish my reading challenge this year. Can anyone recommend a book that’s set in the 1600s? It’s the only time period I have left for the When Are You Reading? Challenge. Thanks to anyone who can help!
I have a class after work Wednesdays through November so please be patient with me due to delayed responses. I’m checking as often as I can.

You have a lot of books going at once right now! I keep hearing about Elena Ferrante, but her Neapolitan novels seem a daunting series to start on (although not as daunting as Game of Thrones, which I plan to start reading next year).

I’m afraid I don’t read a lot of historical fiction so can’t really help on the 1600’s recommendation. If you’d said 1700’s I may have been ok 🙂

In terms of books set in the 1600s… have you already read the Three Musketeers? If not, it’s a great classic to read 🙂 If you have, there’s always its sequel: Twenty Years After.
Or there’s Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier.
Also Daphne Du Maurier’s Frenchman’s Creek is set in the 1600s. I love her writing, but I haven’t yet read this one, so I can’t say anything on its quality, but I hear good things 🙂

If you are looking for something in the 1600s, maybe something Shakespeare will do? I read The Miniaturist this year, but if I remember correctly you already read that one. I also have only one pending time period to fill (1700s) and I have no idea what to read for it still… Outlander might be an option, but it’s huge and I’m not sure it will be for me.

I read the Miniaturist last year, you’re right. Great memory! I was thinking of a Shakespeare because it’s short and there are so many I haven’t read. Maybe The Tempest? My 1700s book was A Darker Shade of Magic. Have you read that one yet? Happy reading!

I actually did read A Darker Shade Of Magic, but thought it was set in the 1800s?? At least that what I have put both books in the series under (1819/1820)

It spoke about the King going mad and I figured that was King George III whose first bout of madness was in the 1700s. Really, with fantasy, we could both be right or both be wrong! Happy reading!

Sounds really plausible as well yes. It’s been too long since I read them to remember properly, but there might have been a date mentioned in the book since I wrote down an exact year. I’m not sure though.

I’m happy The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing has turned out to be good. I know it’s her name, but I still love the title and want it to be about a man who loves dancing with cats. 😉

I recently read The Silvered Heart which I thought was really good and it was set in 1648 – it takes place after the Civil War in England. Here’s my WWW Wednesday
