15 Mar

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived here on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading. So, let’s get to it!

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Note: For users of Blogspot blogs, I’m unable to comment on your posts as a WordPress blogger unless you’ve enabled Name/URL comments. This is a known WordPress/Blogspot issue. Please consider enabling this to participate more fully in the community.

Currently reading: Again, nothing with Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs. Husband has been traveling a lot lately, which is very unlike him! I’m usually the one out and about, haha.
I think I read five pages of The Book of Speculation by Erika Swyler on Friday and I was really excited about it. Still reading has been bogging me down a lot and with Spring Break this week (WOO!) I’m hoping to get back to this a bit.
I made myself read a good chunk of Night Soldiers by Alan Furst over the weekend. I gave myself a no-TV rule and it really worked! It’s still going to be tight to finish it before it’s due, though.
At my library board meeting, I was reminded that we have an author coming to visit soon, David Maraniss, who will talk about his book Once In a Great City about Detroit. I got an audiobook copy of this one over the weekend and started in on it right away.

Recently finished: Was able to finish up The Mother Tongue by Bill Bryson during a long workout on Saturday. I’m so relieved to have finished something! My review went up Monday so please go check it out!

Reading Next: Again, nothing planned. I think I’ll need a physical book next and I’ll grab whatever looks right off of my shelf. I’m going to let myself enjoy the freedom in that for once!

Leave a comment with your link and a comment (if you’re so inclined). Take a look at the other participant links in the comments and look at what others are reading.

Have any opinions on these choices?

Until next time, write on.

I think Bryson is an interesting man and a prolific writer, so I’ll have to check out your review. And speaking of prolific, I just picked up the latest from Patricia Cornwell, and I just finished a big new bio.

I can’t believe I hadn’t read anything by Bryson before last year. He is, as you mention, very prolific! I love his wit, too. Enjoy the Cornwell book. Happy reading!

Good to hear your no TV rule worked for you – when people ask me how I read so much my answer is invariably, I don’t watch much TV which frees up a lot of time 😉 Here is my Wednesday post https://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2017/03/15/this-week-in-books-march-15/

I’ve tried carrying it forward into the week with moderate success. I allow myself one episode while my hubby and I eat dinner and a movie if it relates to books. Happy reading!

Had seen a movie directed by French writer Emmanuel Carrère, but never read any of his books. I did after reading an excellent article about him in the New York Times – How Emmanuel Carrère Reinvented Nonfiction – The New York Times: How Emmanuel Carrère Reinvented Nonfiction: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/02/magazine/how-emmanuel-carrere-reinvented-nonfiction.html. I read My Life as a Russian Novel – 2007 and have ordered 2 more books from the Public Library. Gripping reading.

Switching to reading before bed definitely made it easier for me to fall asleep. I used to be super stubborn and would insist that it wasn’t watching Netflix before bed that made it take an hour for me to fall asleep, but it totally was, haha.

On Monday I was in the area of a B&N, so I went and used a giftcard I got two Christmases ago. I bought several physical books, including Lonesome Dove since I’ve never read it. I think I will need to start a new audiobook now that I’m all caught up in reviews. My current read (To Move the World) is going gruellingly slow. I am not a skimmer, but I am very tempted to start skimming with that one. Happy reading!

It’s always nice to just grab whatever sounds/looks good, especially after reading a bunch of ‘required’ material, so I hope you find something you like! And that no TV rule sounds especially helpful. If I watched more TV I might try it, myself, but I’m not sure it would make any difference right now.
