Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived here on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading. So, let’s get to it!
The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
Note: For users of Blogspot blogs, I’m unable to comment on your posts as a WordPress blogger unless you’ve enabled Name/URL comments. This is a known WordPress/Blogspot issue. Please consider enabling this to participate more fully in the community.
Currently reading: I was an hour early for a conference on Friday so I spent the time reading The Book of Speculation by Erika Swyler at Starbucks. I got through a few chapters and I’m about halfway through the book now. Slow and steady but really enjoying this one.
A Son of the Circus has been a slow start. I’m hoping it picks up because this brick is over 600 pages long! I love Irving but this is very different from his earlier books. I hope I can still enjoy it.
I started listening to Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See on Saturday for a two-hour workout so I made great progress in it already. It’s not too long so I’m hoping I can get through this one quickly.
Recently finished: I finally finished Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs! Hubby and I split up to finish it and I came through on Friday, him on Saturday. My review of it went up yesterday and I warn you, it is not glowing. I gave it 2 out of 5 Stars. We watched the movie as well and I’ll post about that tomorrow.
I also got through Once In a Great City by David Maraniss. This was really fun to listen to and for anyone based in Detroit, I think it’s worth reading. It gives a great image of what our city was and what it could be again. I gave it 4 out of 5 Stars. I’ll be posting about this book again as Maraniss visits Detroit to talk about the book.
Reading Next: I think I’ll need another audiobook next, which seems crazy after finishing two this week! Next on my list is Terra Incognita by Ruth Downie. It’s been years since I read the first in this series so I may have to read some summaries to refresh myself. The subsequent books are also available on audio so I hope to move through some of them soon.
Leave a comment with your link and a comment (if you’re so inclined). Take a look at the other participant links in the comments and look at what others are reading.
Have any opinions on these choices?
Until next time, write on.

The Riggs is the only one I’m familiar with and I’ve been putting it off simply because the second was so lackluster for me compared to the first. I may keep putting it off!

Currently reading Devil At My Heels by Louis Zamperini. Finished reading Cosmos by Carl Sagan. Next up is a new genre for me, either And Then There Was None, a mystery. Or the classic Stephen King novel The Stand. I have yet to choose between those two. I will read them both, just don’t know which one I will read first.
Enjoy the rest of your week!

I read ‘Unbroken’ but haven’t read Zamperini’s own book. How is it? Have you read both? I hope you enjoy whatever you decide to read next. Happy reading!

I haven’t read Unbroken, no. I saw the film. The film wasn’t bad, but I didn’t put two and two together when I read Zamperini’s book. Compared to the movie, I would say they are almost night and day. Jolie left a lot of parts out of the Unbroken film, and the parts that were included were either wrong, too short, or added for Hollywood fluff.
Zamperini’s true, gritty account of what actually happened was a masterful read. It wasn’t until I was exactly half way that I thought, hey, this is familiar.
Unfortunately because I had seen the film, now I had a hard time creating my own images in my mind. I hate that!

Have to admit I was quite surprised to see you give Library of Souls such a low rating yesterday. I haven’t read it so can’t comment but I kind of expected it to be higher.
I have unfortunately joined Netflix so my reading has been a little slower but here’s my www: https://iwuvbooks.wordpress.com/2017/04/12/www-wednesday-12th-april-2017/

I gave the second one 2 stars as well. I hoped it was ‘middle book syndrome’ but the third fell flat as well. I like the idea Riggs had with a visual book, but I think his plot suffered because of it. Happy reading!

Glad to hear that you completed Library of Souls. I love your determination. I hope Sons of Circus picks up the pace. Reading a book with 600 pages that is slow moving, I consider that torture. 🙂

I’ll be interested to hear how you feel about Son of Circus because I have a conflicted relationship with Irving. I never “get into” his books. I either love it from Page One (Cider House Rules) or I simply don’t get it (Hotel New Hampshire).
This week I write about my two favorite food groups: mystery and biography.

Hotel New Hampshire was a weird one if I’m remembering it correctly. I remember the hotel and the stuffed dog for sure! What a bold image. Have you read Owen Meany? I think I got into Twister River as it went on, I wasn’t 100% vested at first. Happy reading!

I hope you liked Son of the Circus. I picked up some of his early novels a while back and I hope to get through them soon. Even if I don’t love his books, I always have fun picking up on ‘Irving tropes’ (wrestling, bears, parent issues, etc.).
