Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived here on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Currently reading: Still nothing with A Son of the Circus by John Irving. One more book to go before I jump back into it, though! Soon enough I’ll be back on this one.
I got through a bit of Love in the Elephant Tent by Kathleen Cremonesi. I had some technical difficulties opening it on my phone but those cleared up and I’m able to read it during lunch again.
I really pushed to read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance by Robert Pirsig this weekend. I didn’t make great progress, but I got through the first 150 pages or so. I think this is a book where if I don’t finish it, I can still go to the book club discussion and not have too much ruined for me. At least I hope it’s one of those books!
I started two new audiobook. The first is one for my phone, Abraham by Bruce Feiler. I heard Feiler speak a few years ago and have a signed copy of this book I haven’t gotten around to. Feiler narrates the audiobook so I’m having a good time of listening to him read it.
The second one is Career of Evil by Robert Galbraith AKA J.K. Rowling. I could only find this audiobook on CD so I grabbed it to listen to in my car. Car audiobooks are usually a slow-go for me so I expect this to be on here for a while.

Recently finished: I finished up Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay on Friday. I really liked this one and I posted my review of it yesterday if you want to go check that out. I gave it Four out of Five Stars.
I forgot this one last week because I was determined not to write a review of it. I had to read a full book for my class so I wanted to count it toward my Goodreads goal for this year. The book was People Analytics in the Era of Big Data by Jean Paul Isson and Jesse S. Harriott. It was well written but doesn’t go along with the theme of this blog so I’ll leave my review at that.

Reading Next: I’m still not making plans! I need to get through what’s already on my plate before I even think of something else. I’m hoping to get back to Son of the Circus soon so I’ll concentrate on that.

    I’m still not too sure whether I want to try a Robert Galbraith. I keep hearing mixed views. Is this your first or have you read one before?

      This is my third. I enjoyed the first two. It’s not the mystery I enjoy as much as the characters. Rowling/Galbraith knows how to write a great plot with great characters! Happy reading.

        I’ve enjoyed all of Galbraith’s books. I love the two main characters in the series but each book has a rather unique plot, too. The last one is quite interesting in it’s approach to the bad guy – three possibilities, inside their heads but you don’t know which is whom!

      I had to read Son of the Circus twice because I almost skimmed it the first time. The second time I was careful and turned out loving it. I think the book needs to be loved.

        I wish he’d edited it down a bit, though. It’s really long and has a lot of set up before the plot gets going.

    That is an interesting mix of books! I have some Robert Galbraith novels on my bookshelves but haven’t read any yet, too nervous to read them in case I don’t like them…

      I had the same fear but I ended up enjoying them a lot. They’re different enough from Potter that it was never an issue for me. Happy reading!

      Sarah’s Key was a great read. I recommend it if it sounds good on the surface. Rowling/Galbraith is great at plotting and I think mysteries like this one suit her really well. Happy reading!

    I hope you enjoy the Robert Galbraith book. I did read the first one, The Cuckoo’s Calling, and I did enjoy it and have the other two on my TBR list. They are of course different that HP, but so many people complain they aren’t like HP. No, they are crime fiction. Anyway, i hope you enjoy them!! Here is my WWW post! Happy Wednesday!

      I really like them. They’re totally different from HP but that’s part of why she wrote them under a pseudonym. I see a lot of parallels to her writing in HP, though. Happy reading!

        Exactly so people wouldn’t compare them to HP, but that didn’t work too well since she was outed as the author just like with Casual Vacancy, which I enjoyed as well. They read her adult works and expect to be transported to Potterland quite unfairly to Rowling, I think, who is a brilliant author. I teach a Contemporary lit class each semester, and she’s always a favorite of my students.
        I see the similarities too, and I think it is in her use of wording, dialogue, and language more than anything. She’s very formal in her writing style, and it almost comes across as old fashioned. I don’t mind it too terribly, but it does make her distinctive.

        I didn’t know she tried to write CV under a pen name. I wasn’t a big fan of that one, honestly. Too many characters! I had trouble keeping them straight. Happy reading!

    I’ve always *meant* to read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. People I know who read it back in their college days say it was a powerful positive influence.

    This week, I’ve got the mystery of a con man who may be a crime victim himself — at this point, we don’t know — and memories of a former First Lady.

    I’m always impressed by how many books you have on the go! I haven’t read any of J K Rowling’s works apart from the Harry Potter series. I’m curious to see how her writing for adults compares. I hope you have a good reading week!

    Happy Wednesday Sam! I am very interested in hearing your thoughts on the 1st of the Cormoran Strike series. I heard that this may be a little slow to start but worth it because of the well fleshed out characters J.K. (not a fan of her other pen name lol) delivers. I own the physical copies but haven’t gotten around to them yet *sobs* Happy Reading! 😉

        Ah! well then that must be a good sign then, you didn’t DNF the series lol. I def don’t get Potter vibes from those books, I do however think that she writes one hell of a character so i’m def looking forward to reading her work in another genre 🙂

    I loved Sarah’s Key! And I just can’t do John Irving. I’ve even heard him speak, and enjoyed his talk, but I just don’t like his books.
