Do You Read On The Couch?

14 Nov

Welcome back to exploring where we all read! As I said before, I love reading in bed. On the couch, well, is a different story.

I almost never read on the couch. I find it puts a lot of strain on my neck to look down at my lap to read. When I lift the book up my arms get tired. I end up laying down on the couch, but at that point, I’d rather be in bed where I have all the pillows I need to make myself comfortable. Plus, there are no breaks in cushions on my bed. My butt doesn’t get stuck anywhere.

I will read on the couch for a short time. If I know it’s only going to be 20 minutes that I’m reading while I wait for something or someone, I’ll do it. I also read magazines on the couch. I usually read these in short installments rather than all at once so reading them on the couch is a good option. Plus, they’re so light that holding it up to my face isn’t as much of an issue for me.

I’m going to guess I’m in the minority here. Couch reading seems to be pretty popular, but I just can’t get comfortable. Am I the odd one out, reader? Do you read on the couch?

Until next time, write on.

Oh yes, I read a lot on the couch (and in bed), we have a big roomy couch so it’s not a problem to stretch right out. I do like to prop the book or kindle up though. I’d really like one of those triangle type cushions for laps which hold a kindle/ipad/book – I keep hinting at the family each birthday and Christmas, but so far they’ve ignored me!
I’ll either have to get one myself or drop huge great dollops of hints this year.

I bought my mom one of those a few years ago and she loves it! I hope you get one this year. Happy reading!

Never – and I have a long one, a short one, a huge (!) reading or two-some chair, and a decent futon. I don’t read on any of them. I have done it but not in years.

Then where is left for you to read?!

In a nice chair behind a desk in the office which is great for putting drinks and snacks on. I can see the TV and have my laptop and iPad here, too. Sometimes I sit in a chair at the kitchen table where the light is great or sometimes on the deck in a chair there – with a little table next to me.

I’d be too distracted with a TV, laptop, and iPad around. Kudos to you for focusing! Good lighting is a must for sure. Happy reading!

I have a huge overstuffed chair in my personal library that I’ll read on. It does start to kill my neck depending on how I sit though. Any other time I read in bed.

That neck strain is killer. I have to lay flat and prop he book up on my knees at best. Happy reading!

I love this exploring where we read series! Great reading! Yes, I do read on the couch. We have a nice, comfy sectional with blankets and pillows, so it’s almost like being in bed. And the lighting is great around the couch. 🙂

I have a similar couch but our lighting is terrible. Maybe that’s the trick! Glad you’re enjoying the series. Happy reading!

The couch in my apartment is pretty plush, so when I’m reading there I put my book on the arm and it’s at a comfortable level (hardly any neck strain). It’s also a sectional, so there’s plenty of room for me to move about if necessary. 🙂 But if I’m on an uncomfortable couch/love-seat, like at my local library, I can’t get comfortable reading on it.

I have a sectional and I still struggle haha. I’ll have to try using the arm. Happy reading!

I don’t read on the couch unless I need to, our couch is very uncomfterable and so is out recliner. We got the couch from our cousin and my mom choose the chair thinking of only her sitting in it, not even once thinking if I would like it.

Oh geeze. Our recliner is pretty great. So great that I read there for school knowing I’ll fall asleep haha.

Unfortunately my the only other place to read is my bed and since it’s a bunk beds and so I am unable to sit up and read so my other option is the floor.

Yes, I do read on the couch. But I’m constantly shifting and moving. I don’t think I’m completely comfortable reading anywhere. But when I start getting uncomfortable it’s usually my cue to get up and take a break. ( :

Good call. I much prefer shifting around and getting comfortable in bed than a couch. I usually fall asleep. Happy reading!

I read a lot on the couch or should I say couches. I like to spread out with my butt on one couch and my feet up on the arm of the other. It gives my neck support and means my legs are out of reach of the furry black monster who likes to attack them if I’m not paying him enough attention. I’ve also worked out if I sit another book on the arm of the couch I’m sitting on I can balance my mug of tea on it so it’s close at hand (this isn’t really possible in bed).

Your system sounds perfect. Neck support is so key, I’m glad you figured it out. Happy reading!

I mostly read in my chair. I almost never read in my bed and occasionally on the couch if I can get comfortable.

Comfy chairs are always a good option. I have one but I fall asleep so fast I don’t read there much. Happy reading!

Haha, do you have pets that like to get comfy? There’s more space on a bed anyway. Happy reading!

I read on the couch if I’m the only one home. I will sit on the end and put my kindle on the arm rest. Both ends of my couch also recline so it just makes it even more comfortable.

Oddly I find it easier to find a comfortable reading position on a couch as opposed to a bed, yet it is also not too comfortable that I’ll fall asleep.

Haha, the perfect balance. Maybe my problem is I’m too comfortable on a bed. But reading is a great predecessor to a nap. Happy reading!

I read mostly on the couch, constantly changing positions and after a really good book when I’ve been there for hours and hours I bemoan the fact that my neck and back are broken lol

Sounds perfect. I love reading in bed for that reason: sounds like your couch is more comfortable than mine. Happy reading!
