Readers, I need advice!
I’m leaving Wednesday for a two-week vacation. My husband and I are doing it all carry-on only! So, that, unfortunately, means no books! I can hear you all gasp in horror. I’ll clarify. That means no print books. If you know me, you know I’m a dedicated print reader so I’m going out of my comfort zone and doing ebooks on my phone for this trip. I have one I’m in the middle of and one more downloaded and, well, that’s it!
I’m nervous I don’t have enough. I’m 90% sure I can download more while I’m abroad but I know there are weird phone rules with some services and I’d prefer to have books on my phone before we head out. I think I might have enough? Maybe? I don’t know!
We have several flights on this trip so there will be a good amount of time spent waiting in airports. I think that will be the majority of my reading time. I’ve packed the rest of our days pretty full.
How much do you all read on vacation? Would two books be enough for anyone out there? I feel like I’m really skimping but I’m also being a bit logical about my time. Would you suggest another book? …or two?

I think I read 8 when I was on a two week trip to Michigan for one week then Ireland another week. Just download a bunch before you leave.
I know Ireland had wifi in their pubs, idk about other countries since that is the only one I have been to aside from cruise stops.

In my experience, most European cities have good wi-fi provision in hotels or in bars/cafes/pubs etc. Definitely the case in the UK. I hope Sam’s trip is somewhere amazing…!

All the places we’re staying have WiFi so I’m not too worried about that. We’ll be stopping in Belfast so just one corner of the UK. Happy reading!

Dang! How long were these books? I can’t imagine reading eight books in two weeks. Also, I hope you enjoyed my home state of Michigan!

One of them was probably a Harry Potter book…think I read the Half Blood Prince or order of Phoenix while my parents slept on the way home on an almost 10 hour flight .
The rest were your average 270-400 pages long. My internal clock didn’t agree with going to bed at their time since it was five hours off. So I read a lot…and my dad kept us awake the first day so we couldn’t even sleep after getting off the plane lol. So I was awake for 32 hours the first and last days.

I also read them on my e-reader. I get through books quicker on them and was trying to pack light.

I’m thoroughly impressed with reading that much! Kudos to you. I don’t have an eReader so I’m sticking to the Kindle app on my iPhone. I hope I survive! I’m in metro Detroit myself.

Hope you like reading on the phone! I hate it and prefer e-readers but if you can and like it, kudos to you too! I wish I did like it for at work lol.
I think when I went to Michigan for a week last year I read a total of four maybe five books. I sometimes read more on trips and other times I don’t.
I actually was literally minutes away from the Michigan/Ohio boarderline. My stepmom was from Detroit though.

I’ve never owned a good eReader, just a cheap one I won at a giveaway whose battery only lasts an hour. So I don’t really know what I’m missing haha.
I’m stocked up on books now so we’ll see how much I get through. I don’t think I’m in danger of running out haha. Happy reading!

Huh! I don’t know of any that have lasted that long. My Nook’s have all lasted at least a week and my Kindle Oasis 2017 is finally lasting about a week finally.

I read a lot because one week we usually stay with my mother-in-law in the countryside and I usually read a book a day while I’m there. The second half we usually go somewhere else and I read a little bit in the evening but not much more than that because we’re out and about. So I say it depends on what you’ll be doing on holiday. If you have a lot of activities planned then no you won’t have time to read very much. I’d just up load maybe 1 or 2 more books just in case you do have time. That way you won’t be stuck with nothing. Oh and I’d upload them from home before leaving to be safe.

I think it really depends on what my trip involves. If I do a week by the pool I usually take between 4 and 6 depending on the length of the books. If I do a busy 7-10 days (like a cruise) then I take an absolute minimum of two but that’s being safe in the knowledge I can either buy books, read them and leave them behind for someone else, or there’s a library (which most cruise ships have). Quite specific scenarios but those are the only types of holidays I’ve done in the last couple of years! 🙂

First off have fun on vacation! Second, I always feel like I’ll read so much on the plane and waiting for the plane, and guess what I read even less. I’ve learned that I have a very hard time reading on planes. I don’t know what it is. I usually bring one book and I usually never finish it. The only time I finished 3 books on vacation was when I went to Cuba because that’s all you do, read by the pool/beach.
I’m currently on my way home from a mini vacation to Niagara Falls and I did even less reading than I expected. I wish you luck reading only ebooks! 🙂

I never read as much as I intend to once I’m actually on vacation at my destination, so for me it would really depend on the amount of travel time I’ve got, because I will read on planes to distract myself from the horror of where I’m situated. Since they’re ebooks I’d just say have more than you think you’ll need, especially since there’s always a chance the limited books you do bring don’t manage to be all that gripping.

Hello! I think how much I/you read really depends on the type of vacation. If you’re travelling around seeing lots of things and doing a lot of activities, you’ll read less. If you’re sitting on a beach or aiming to have a similarly relaxing vacation, you’ll read much more. I’ve read 7 books on an 8-day vacation (beach trip, just me and the hubs) and I’ve read 2 books on a 3-week trip, also just me and the hubs (full of activities, plus being super tired from first trimester of pregnancy…).
I’d suggest bringing one print book for a comfort book (small, paperback that can fit in your purse) for when the phone bugs your eyes. Then, download as many ebooks as you can so you can have choices on what to read and don’t have to worry about finding wifi or picking another book to download. I also like to take an audio book or two with me on my phone for long flights when I want to close my eyes but still have entertainment because I can never sleep on flights.

I’ve got an audiobook for exactly that reason! I’m worried about getting sick of the phone glare so a small paperback might help if I have the space for it. We’re traveling extremely light so that’s seriously in question.
I think I’m going to be very busy from our travels so I’m not sure how much reading I’ll get done. I’ll wait and see but I’m not optimistic. Happy reading!

My husband and I did a carry-on only two week trip to England last year! I ended up taking one print book that was fairly skinny (Persuasion by Jane Austen) and the rest of the books were on my e-reader. I use an iPad Mini as my e-reader, so it is also very slim. I think I ended up reading three or four e-books, in addition to my print book (mostly on the plane and train rides). It all really depends on how much downtime you think you’ll have, and how quickly you tend to read. Audio books are also a good option!

Reading on my phone isn’t my favorite but it works. I might have to look into one novel to read before bed to avoid light. I hope your trip was awesome. Happy reading!

It depends on what type of vacation you are going on. Most of my trips aboard have been so full of sight-seeing and museums that one or two books is more than enough; however, if I’m doing a week lounging on the beach I either bring several books or one or two huge books such as The Stand. Enjoy your vacation.

It depends where I’m going. Somewhere tropical, lots of book to read on the beach. Oh, and on the airplane too. Really I just take my kindle so I have all the books in my hand.

Travel is why I adore my Kindle! Two books would never be enough for me! Especially if I have lots of vehicle travel. Planes, trains, and cars offer me plenty of time to read, and I like a choice.

I’m really wishing I owned a Kindle right now. I’ve never wanted one before but it would be very convenient for this trip. We’ll be on planes and trains though no cars are planned. I may surprise myself and get through a lot of books, we’ll see. Happy reading!

When I go on a plane I usually listen to audiobooks, I find it easier than looking at a screen for a long time, and it helps because sometimes I get sick. The amount of books I read depends on if it’s a direct flight or there are stops, but I complete around 2-4 books.
It’s always a good thing to have more books downloaded in case you get bored of one if you feel like reading something else.
