Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived here on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading. So, let’s get to it!
The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
Note: For users of Blogspot blogs, I’m unable to comment on your posts as a WordPress blogger unless you’ve enabled Name/URL comments. This is a known WordPress/Blogspot issue. Please consider enabling this to participate more fully in the community.
Currently reading: No progress with Becoming Madame Mao by Anchee Min, as predicted. Once I figure out my new work routine, I’ll have a better idea of when I can expect to finish this book. I’m hesitant to focus on it because reading on a device before bed will probably make it harder for me to sleep.
I need to finish Beautiful Music by Michael Zadoorian before Monday so I’m focusing on it a little more than I normally would. I’m thinking of going for a walk after I write this post where I listen to it (and play Wizards Unite) just to get some time in listening. It’s not a chore by any means, but a much more compressed time frame than I was hoping for.
I’ve made decent progress with The King’s Curse by Philippa Gregory though I think I’ll be getting through it faster once I start my new job and have a longer commute. I’m not sure what the main action is that I should focus on yet, but I’m sure it will become clear soon.
I was able to pick up a new book from the library last night, The Ghost and Mrs. Muir by Josephine Leslie. This is one a fellow writer recommended to me years ago at a writers’ group meeting. I’ve only just started it so no telling yet how I feel about it.
Recently finished: I finished up Writing and Selling the YA Novel by K.L. Going yesterday. It’s probably a bad idea to keep reading books on writing while I’m trying to finish editing my book. It keeps me wanting to make more and more changes so I feel like I’ll never be done! There was some good advice in this book, but I felt it could have used some more details. A review might take a while because I’m very behind on them right now!
Reading Next: I still plan to get to A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab soon but it’s not ‘next up’ anymore. I’ve given that spot to Hillbilly Elegy by J.D. Vance. This is an upcoming book club selection and I’ll need to get through the audiobook pretty quickly. Some upcoming half-marathon training should help with that!
Leave a comment with your link and comment (if you’re so inclined). Take a look at the other participant links in the comments and look at what others are reading.
Have any opinions on these choices?
Until next time, write on.
You can follow me on Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram. I’m available via email at SamAStevensWriter@gmail.com. And as always, feel free to leave a comment!
Good luck with the edits! Look forward to seeing what you make of Hillbilly Elegy, it was a popular one in work but I never got round to reading it.

You’ll have enough stress in your life adjusting to the new job so last thing you want is to feel pressured into reading or reviewing. They can all wait a while 🙂

I was lucky and was able to use the last two weeks off to get far ahead in reviews so I don’t have to worry about much my first week. Happy reading!

How are you finding Philippa Gregory’s novels? They seem to be very polarizing. People either love or hate them. I have read a couple and I have enjoyed them, but so many peeps seem to actively dislike her books!

I like her writing and her books but I find some a lot better than others. I feel sometimes she’s telling a story and other times she’s rehashing history. I’m not sure where this one falls yet. Happy reading!

Listening to a book while half-marathoning?! Your motivation puts me to shame 😛 A Conjuring of Light is also on my TBR list and keeps getting pushed down… hopefully we’ll get to it one day!

How was Writing and Selling the YA Novel? I have been piddling around with writing for years but finally have a few projects that actually might have some merit. Besides, I always like reading books about writing. Would you recommend that one?

I read ‘Writing Fiction for Dummies’ a few months ago and would recommend that one over Going. It had a lot more practical advice on how to approach the writing process. The last two chapters of Going had some good YA advice, but the rest of it was generic to fiction in general and the Dummies book had better advice.

I can relate to constantly wanting to go back and change your writing, though I’ve got a long ways to go with the first draft of my own book. I keep wanting to redo the intro and other early scenes, but I have to rein that impulse in so I can actually make progress. Good luck and happy reading!

I think I love reading books about writing more than I love writing. Or, perhaps, as a way to avoid the actual work of writing. Have you read Stephen King’s book On Writing? It kind of made me feel like I was not worthy but it was wonderful.
Happy training! You’ve inspired me to work audiobooks into my workout routine and, while I struggle with speed a bit, its getting better.

Good luck with the new job. I’m sure you’ll find a new routine and be back at full reading speed in no time. I don’t tend to find reading on a device before bed interferes with my sleep too much. It’s reading on a device when I wake up at 3am and can’t get back to sleep that’s more of a problem 😉

The tv show was much lighter than the movie, the 70s, ya know. Evidently you can see some of the show on youtube. I don’t know if it’s anywhere else.
