With the new year here, it’s time to start thinking about bookish goals for 2020. I’ve kept it simple over the past few years and that’s worked best for me. It allows me to have fun with my book clubs and pick a few books that I’m interested in and want to read at the same time. Simple is usually better, right?
I’d be a terrible challenge host if I didn’t participate in my own challenge, wouldn’t I? I host this challenge annually and I love it. It’s a 12-book challenge to read one book in each of 12 time periods. You can read more about it here. I adore this challenge because it involves one of my favorite genres: historical fiction. It pushes me to find fiction from less popular time periods and exposes me to times I don’t know as much about.
Goal: Read 55 books.
The ever-present Goodreads goal. I like this one for its simplicity. It’s just a number, so read that many books. Easy enough. But when I get bogged down in long books or I’m five off with two weeks to go, it’s a lot harder than it sounds. You can check my progress here. It’s always a good time.
I don’t have a ton of personal goals this year. My biggest one is completing Triational Age Group National Championships in August, but I don’t have a specific time goal in mind. I’m just excited to go and participate and maybe see some big names that I look up to. That will be my focus race this year and I’m looking forward to it!
Do you have any reading or personal goals for 2020? If you’re looking for something to push yourself, consider giving my challenge a try.
Until next time, write on.

I set my goal at 100 again. 2019 was the first year I missed that mark. I only made it to 83.

I almost completed your When Are You Reading challenge for 2019, but I just didn’t get to a book set in the future.

That one is harder than I think it will be! I have to remember to grab a speculative book or sci-fi each year to round it out. Happy reading!

Really like the sound of your challenge but I don’t trust myself to commit fully, can you read non fiction related to the periods as well or does it have to be fiction? I would like to use the challenge as a guide and see how I go. I usually only commit to reading 32 books a year on goodreads, but generally exceed that number and with out really meaning to I ended up running a challenge this year as well. Mine is the Gaia reading challenge which just asks you to read as little as one book with a nature/environment theme but preferably one book a month on that theme, it was all a bit last minute and only occurred after a comment conversation with another blogger. Happy reading and I am off to find something related to pre 1300.

It can be fiction or non fiction, whatever you prefer. Good luck running your challenge! I’ve loved doing it over the years. Let me know if you want to be added to the participant list I keep for the challenge. I can link to your homepage or if you have a page for this challenge, I can link there. Happy reading!

I’ve kept my reading goal to 30 books- I really want it to be easy but I know it won’t be.

Good luck! Different reading levels are different for every person. It depends on what else you have going on in life and how long your average book is. Happy reading!

Hi Sam I think I have joined your challenge. I have put up a post and found a couple of titles to make a start. I new I would end up sucked in, thank you for hosting. I just posted under my overall 2020 reading challenges post, so When you are reading is one of three challenges I am doing this year.
Because of your challenge I discovered a new title in a series I really like and I probably would not have gone looking if it was not for your challenge. That is what I love about challenges, they help you discover new great reads. I suspect your challenge will lead me to some other great titles as well.

I’m so glad to hear this! If you can share a link, I’ll add it to the participants list so other participants can see how you’re doing. I love discovering books I didn’t know about before. Especially ones in series by authors you already like, how fun. I look forward to more discoveries as the year goes on. Happy reading!

I’ve already read the books for this challenge so I’m happy with where I’m at so far. For the future time period, I’m reading Illuminae if anyone still needs a future book

You’re already done?! Wow wow wow. I’m very impressed. I’m not normally organized enough to finish this until November at the earliest, haha. Congrats!

I meant to say three books for the challenge, not the books. Guess I should’ve proofread before hitting reply lol. Almost done with four though now which is nice
