6 May

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived here on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading. So, let’s get to it!IMG_1384-0

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Note: For users of Blogspot blogs, I’m unable to comment on your posts as a WordPress blogger unless you’ve enabled Name/URL comments. This is a known WordPress/Blogspot issue. Please consider enabling this to participate more fully in the community.

Currently reading: I’m over halfway through White Oleander by Janet Fitch now that it’s in print next to my bed. Crazy demands from work have kept me from reading quite as much as I’d like but I’m making good progress with it and hope to be finished in a few weeks.
It’s been slower with The Lola Quartet by Emily St. John Mandel since work picked up. I need to be away from a screen when I’m not working so an ebook isn’t as appealing as print. I’ll keep moving forward with it, I’m sure, but it might slow down to my usual ebook pace.
I started The Bookseller by Cynthia Swanson as an audiobook. This isn’t quite the ‘book about books’ I thought it was going to be. Honestly, the titled bookseller could have any other job and it wouldn’t have a huge impact on the plot. I’m a bit up in the air about this one, still. We’ll see.

Recently finished: I wrapped up The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye by David Lagercrantz fairly quickly once it was on my phone. I’m a bit disappointed in this one and I’ll be posting my review tomorrow to detail why. I’m not sure if I’ll continue with the series. I gave the book Three out of Five Stars.
I powered through to the end of The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern once I met with my Reading Buddy. We’ll meet very soon to discuss it, I’m sure. I’m still thinking this one over and my review will be up next week. I don’t think I would have gotten nearly as much out of it without my Buddy Reader. There were a lot of references to pop culture and to earlier parts of the book that would have gone over my head.

Reading Next: I still plan to grab Fiction Writer’s Workshop by Josip Novakovich as a physical book. I really hope it pushes me to do some writing or editing. That’s one thing this pandemic has stopped that I’d love to get a little motivation to continue.
With the speed I’m going through audiobooks, I have to plan for another one soon. Next up is Viola in Reel Life by Adriana Trigiani. This seems like the perfect time for a little YA.

Leave a comment with your link and comment (if you’re so inclined). Take a look at the other participant links in the comments and look at what others are reading.

Have any opinions on these choices?

Until next time, write on.

I’m curious to see what you will have to say about the Starless Sea. I still think I wanna read it but maybe when the libraries are open again.
I’m pretty much over books that have to do with bookshops besides the ones that tell funny anecdotes. It’s mostly not about the bookshop or it’s told in a way that often doesn’t really have to do with how things go in a bookshop.

This is more about a magical library, not a bookshop. But it’s mostly an adventure story that takes place in a magical library. I haven’t read much that I could compare it to, honestly. It’s very unique. Happy reading!

I don’t blame for expecting a book titled The Bookseller to be mainly about, well, a bookseller! I think I’m the opposite to you in that I read physical books during the day and read ebooks on my Kindle or listen to audiobooks in the evening or in bed at night.

I will listen to audiobooks in the evening while I’m cleaning up but not once I’m in bed. I try to get away from a screen before turning the lights off, it helps me sleep. Happy reading!

Sam, sorry to hear your heavy workload has been slowing down your reading – I hope it eases off a bit soon! And I can understand you wanting to read more physical books if you are already spending so much time at a screen for work.

I hope work is okay and it calms down a bit so you have more time to yourself or to read! I also hope The Bookseller picks up soon for you, it’s a bit annoying when the title has nothing to do with the book sometimes and you’re left wondering why the book was called that if it’s not relevant! I’m still looking forward to your review on ‘The Starless Sea’, I’m thinking of picking it up this month (hopefully) and it’s really useful to read your thoughts on it as the weeks go, especially now I know to look out for references!

The Bookseller is clearly titled after the main character who owns a bookstore, but her job doesn’t seem relevant. My husband likened it tomorrow Click Bait for readers which I think is a fair comparison. Happy reading!

The Bookseller is enjoyable but it’s not at all about selling books. The plot has an entirely different focus. I had The Starless Sea on my TBR for that long as well. It feels great to finally get it off. Happy reading!

The Starless Sea sounds like it makes a better group read than it does a single read. I’ve read a few books like that, that just really need at least a second person to hash them out to really get much out of them sometimes.

Man, my writing has really suffered during this pandemic, too. I’m not sure why, but I just have absolutely no motivation or will to sit down and write. I keep trying, and I just end up staring at the stupid computer for half an hour. Hope you’re able to find that motivation soon!

I am anxiously awaiting your review on Eye for an Eye, as I recently read the one after that. I don’t know that I the last two have the same feel as the original trilogy, but I still find them thrilling – at least the end tends to be thrilling. Also, I am right there with you on not wanting to read an ebook after hours working on a computer for work. I spend at least 9 hours a day on the computer, and it is a bit much.
