Happy 7th Birthday to Taking on a World of Words!

15 Sep

Another year completed. I knew this one was coming up soon and I was really glad to see I’d hit seven years blogging. The past six months have been crazy and it’s nice to celebrate milestones for things that haven’t stopped. One of my rituals on my blogoversary is to think what my blog would be able to do if it were a child. This list is getting so comprehensive that I can picture little Blog going off to second grade. I hope she likes it.

  • Becoming thoughtful and reflective
  • Can tell time
  • Develop self-criticism
  • Can solve math problems by counting
  • Develop empathy
  • Write her own name

Yes, Blog is a girl. I’m not sure why, but that’s how I picture it. Yet again, here are some numbers to show my blog’s growth over the past year. Numbers are taken from 14-Sep, nine days after my blogoversary.

It seems the Bird Box craze from last year has simmered down a bit. A lot of my traffic is still focused around WWW Wednesday which I love. I’m seeing more to do with my book club reflections which I’m glad to see. It makes me happy to know I come up in searches for people who also want to discuss books and who want to see what others thought. And, still, I’m pretty sure I’m being used to finish book reports on Shakespeare. Oh well. Thank you all so much for reading along with my reading adventures. I love sharing a love of books with you all. You make finishing a book even more exciting! Until next time, write on.

Happy 6th Birthday to Taking on a World of Words!

19 Sep

This is actually a bit delayed because I’ve been reading so much and had so many book posts lined up, but I’ve hit six years of blogging! This has almost outlasted my longest tenure at a job. It’s just younger than my marriage. This blog has been a consistent part of my life for years and I love it so much.

One of my rituals on my blogoversary is to think what my blog would be able to do if it were a child. My mother might prefer it another way, but this is what I’ve got.

  • Realize the effects of decisions
  • Recognize the feelings of others
  • LEARNING TO READ!
  • Learning to share
  • Start to understand puns
  • Focus for fifteen minutes

It’s off to first grade for my little blog! I hope she makes good friends.

Yet again, here are some numbers to show my blog’s growth over the past year. Numbers are taken from 14-Sep, nine days after my blogoversary. It came on so fast I didn’t have time to celebrate right away.

It’s crazy to me how much my most popular pages are affected by movies and tv shows. I’m honored that my feelings on Bird Box became more read after the Netflix movie, but I hope those people read the books! I think WWW Wednesday is having a stronger pull over my blog and I’m really excited by that. The idea that the community has taken over and is making itself heard and connecting with each other makes me really happy. I still think I’m being plagiarized for high school essays…

Thank you all so much for reading along with my reading adventures. I love sharing a love of books with you all. You make finishing a book even more exciting!

Until next time, write on.

Happy 5th Birthday to Taking on a World of Words!

13 Sep

It seemed appropriate that this happened on a Wednesday! Last week I had my 5th Blogoversary and I’m so excited to share it with all of you! There aren’t many things I’ve done for five years straight so I’m proud that this has been a constant in my life.

One of my rituals on my blogoversary is to think what my blog would be able to do if it were a child. My mother might prefer it another way, but this is what I’ve got.

  • Learn to sing and dance
  • Can tell the difference between reality and fiction
  • Tells a simple story using full sentences
  • Uses the future tense
  • Can print some letters and numbers
  • Can do a somersault.

It’s time for Kindergarten! No longer a toddler, I’ve got a school-aged blog on my hands.

Yet again, here are some numbers to show my blog’s growth over the past year. Numbers are taken from 19-Sep, so four days after my blogoversary. It came on so fast I didn’t have time to celebrate right away.

Why am I feeling like my book is being plagiarized for high school English essays? These search terms are making me uncomfortable. Hm. I can’t thank my loyal readers enough for engaging with me here on my blog. I think the referrers and clicks really show! I’m really blessed to have individuals reading here who love books as much as I do and who enjoy WWW Wednesday and the community it has created. It’s been a joy to run this blog and learn about new books from other book lovers. You all make this experience worthwhile.

Thank you all so much for reading along with my reading adventures. I love sharing a love of books with you all. You make finishing a book even more exciting!

Until next time, write on.

Happy 4th Birthday to Taking on a World of Words!

11 Sep

You guys, it’s been four years! Yes, it really has. I’m surprised, too! I wonder how long I’ll keep this up. Thank you for caring what I have to say four years later (even if you haven’t been reading this for that long). You all make blogging fun and that’s why I’m still doing this.

One of my rituals on my blogoversary is to think what my blog would be able to do if it were a child. Blogs are much cheaper and less time consuming, I know, but it’s still fun to think about.

  • Learn that behaviors have consequences
  • Make attempts to read and write
  • Learn to write its name
  • Sit through dinner at a restaurant
  • Get dressed with minimal supervision
  • Pump its legs on a swing

One more year until Kindergarten! Maybe I’ll put it in preschool to get a little me-time for a while.

Yet again, here are some numbers to show my blog’s growth over the past year. Numbers are taken from 10-Sep, so five days after my blogoversary. It came on so fast I didn’t have time to celebrate right away.

Wow, you guys! This is a lot of change, more than I expected to see. It’s obvious reviewing a classic like The Tempest brought in a lot of people looking for help with school assignments, haha. It’s also clear that visual media like the Thirteen Reasons Why and Handmaid’s Tale TV shows made a lot of people interested in the books and reviews of them. I’m looking forward to some more releases in the next year that will bring similar readers to my blog. Welcome to those who came through these posts!

Thank you all so much for reading along with my reading adventures. I love sharing a love of books with you all. You make finishing a book even more exciting!

Until next time, write on.

Happy 3rd Birthday to Taking on a World of Words!

12 Sep

3Well, shoot. I had no idea this was going to ever happen. After three years, you all STILL care what I have to say? And you’re reading this now? I’m honored. For fun, I always look up what this blog could do if it were a person. This way I can use it as an argument against my mother. (“I know if I had a kid it would be able to XXX but I have a blog and it’s way cheaper!”)

  • Dress itself
  • Show sympathy for those crying
  • Take turns in a game
  • Talk well enough for strangers to understand it
  • Turn the pages of a book
  • Pedal a tricycle

It looks like my blog is really gaining some ground! It will be school aged before I know it. I better get a good camera and start taking pictures before it’s all grown up and I missed EVERYTHING! At least your comments will be here as long as the internet exists. I can always take that walk down memory lane.

I’ve used numbers to show my blog’s age before and like last year, I’ll do that again and show growth with the numbers. I’ve been hosting WWW Wednesday for over a year and I’m so glad to have gained followers and friends through that experience. I’m hoping these numbers show that great growth. All numbers are as of the 6th, one day after the actual blogoversary.

I really need to see The Light Between Oceans movie as it seems so many of those posts have been big hits here on the blog! I’ve been wanting to see it since it came out last week. Maybe next week, when I have my ‘down time,’ I’ll be able to catch it.

I’m so happy to see the uptake in followers and views! You all make me so happy by participating in WWW Wednesday and sharing your thoughts on books that we all love. It’s so great when someone new joins us or finds WWW Wednesday after it’s been gone for a while.

Going back to school and keeping up the blog has been a challenge. I’m so thankful to have you all backing me up while I attempt it and make the stress and time worth it. You all rock.

Until next time, write on.

Happy 2nd Birthday to Taking on a World of Words!

7 Sep

2 YearTwo years! I can’t believe I’ve been doing this for two whole years now, it seems like a crazy idea I came up with last year. I think I need to start calling myself a blogger now, huh? If this blog was a person, it would be able to:

  • Understand spatial relationships
  • Put together basic sentences
  • Remember past experiences
  • Begin potty training.

The Terrible Twos. I hope my blog doesn’t go through phases of public temper tantrums, but I do hope it spreads its wings and can start going to the bathroom, er, existing without me for a while. School is picking up again and this blog and I are about to go through some rough times.

Last year I used a lot of numbers to show my blog’s age. This year, I think showing the growth is important, too. Since taking over WWW Wednesday, I’ve seen a lot more traffic and I only hope that continues in the future. I love meeting you all and bonding over books. All these numbers were prepared on the 5th, the date of my blogoversary.

I guess I’m still one of the internet’s top authorities on The Light Between Oceans. I’m really looking forward to that movie. It’s nice to see the big uptake in comments and followers. You all make me so happy when I see a new follower notification. I’m even happier when I have a new WWW Wednesday participant! I look forward to Wednesday every week.

Thank you to every person reading this. Having your support and knowing you want to discuss books makes me happier than I could have imagined. It’s great to know there’s a world of readers out there like me who want to share a love of books and reading. We’re so lucky to find one another.

Until next time, write on.

Happy Birthday to Taking on a World of Words!

5 Sep

1YearThat’s right folks, this is my 1 year blogoversary! This little blog here is a whole year old. If this blog was a person, it would be able to:

  • Stand on its own two feet, maybe even take a step or two
  • Eat with its fingers
  • Sleep through the night
  • Drink cow’s milk instead of sucking life forces from my body
  • Say ‘mama’

So yeah, if this blog was a person, it would be on its way to some independence. And I think, in a way, it is starting to get there. It’s getting it’s feet under it for sure and there are a few words (or search terms) that it’s starting to claim for its own.

But because I love numbers, I’m going to leave you with a bunch of those, even though it’s really for my enjoyment. And remember, these are approximate because they change by the second!

So there’s some fun facts about the blog you didn’t know before. Who knew I was an expert on The Light Between Oceans?! Cool beans.

I want to thank each of you reading this from the bottom of my heart for making blogging such a great experience for me. I’ve come to love it and I get excited every day when my posts go up so I can see what you all have to say. This has become a passion of mine and I’m glad to share it with every one of you.

Leave a comment! Leave an idea! Tell me something you want to see more of, less of, none of, etc. I want to know what could make this blog even better so that in another year, y’all will have told your friends about this awesome blog that they just have to follow. I want to know what you think.

Until next time, write on.
