Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived here on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading. So, let’s get to it!
The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
Note: For users of Blogspot blogs, I’m unable to comment on your posts as a WordPress blogger unless you’ve enabled Name/URL comments. This is a known WordPress/Blogspot issue. Please consider enabling this to participate more fully in the community.
Currently reading: I’m moving steadily through The Valley of Amazement by Amy Tan and I’m on the third disc now. That doesn’t feel that great when I look at how long this book is, though! I hope I can renew this one a few times.
My husband and I have split our listening to Before the Fall by Noah Hawley. He’s on his own now and I’m heading through by myself as well. I’m still enjoying it and I’m curious what kind of conclusions will come from this book.
I started a new ebook, Origin by Dan Brown. I’ve read and moderately enjoyed the other Langdon books in this series so I’m excited to see what else he can discover and defeat. I expect I’m in this for the long haul.
I’ve only just started Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan, my Spanish read for the year. No word yet on how I feel about it, I’m less than a chapter in!
Recently finished: I’m sad to have finished Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson because I enjoyed it so much. This book made household chores and working out so much better. Lawson talks about mental illness in a very real way but also with humor and love. I love her books and I hope there are more to come.
I finished Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott Sunday night. I would have finished it sooner if I hadn’t been sick and too tired to read. I wish I could have squeezed it into last year, but it’s still a solid book finished.
I wrote reviews, too! Well, one, which I’m considering a major win since I’m rather far behind. I posted a review of Sara Donati’s The Gilded Hour. I didn’t like it in the ending as much as I did at the beginning. I’m having mixed feelings about it now because I’ve heard this is the first in a series, not a stand-alone book. That changes how I felt about a lot of things being left unfinished. I’m going to stick with my original rating, though, of Three out of Five stars.
Reading Next: I know I’m a bit late on this one, but I’m going to listen to Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple next. This one had such hype a few years ago and I’d like to read it before it becomes the movie it’s likely to be. Unless that’s already announced. Then it’s very likely to happen.
Leave a comment with your link and comment (if you’re so inclined). Take a look at the other participant links in the comments and look at what others are reading.
Have any opinions on these choices?
Until next time, write on.

I found your review of The Gilded Hour really interesting, particularly the points you made about the lack of character development and your disappointment at the ending. One of the books I’m reading (or to be precise, listening to) at the moment, The Turn of Midnight, is the second in a series. However I remember being disappointed at the end of the first book because I hadn’t realised it WAS going to be a series and it left a lot of things up in the air.

I’m hearing that The Gilded Hour is the first in a series now so maybe that will all be solved. I wish I’d known that going into it. I think I would have expected something different out of it with that knowledge. Happy reading!

Great choices. I don’t read self-help books but I love the cover of Furiously Happy, it certainly made me smile. Here’s my WWW – https://whisperingstories.com/www-wednesday-reading-9th-january-2019/

It’s more of a memoir than self help. It’s all about Lawson’s journey. She does impart some advise but I’d say it’s 80% stories of what she’s experienced. Happy reading!

Ah that sounds better then. I might give it a read at some point.

I used to love Dan Brown and read everything he wrote but I started to find them all becoming a bit samey so haven’t picked up any of them in years. Will be interested to see how you find it. I’ve also considered Will Grayson, Will Grayson but was put off by the author. I’m not a fan of John Green. I hadn’t realised David Levithan was a co writer, that encourages me to give it a go.

I’ve read all of Brown’s books but it’s very spaced out. The last one I read was more than five years ago. I think that helps me enjoy them more. Happy reading!

Bird by bird is one of my all time favorites. I’ve reread it at least three times and it’s one of those rare books that I’ve underlined things and written notes in the margin. I’m intrigued by Furiously Happy! Is it a memoir/self help or a novel?
LikeLike
I can see why you’ve revisited it so often! Furiously Happy is more of a memoir than self help. I’d say it’s about 80% memoir and the rest is advise, but it feels more like a memoir. Happy reading!

Dan Brown is a bit hit and miss for me. He is a good writer and his books are always fun and interesting, but they get a bit too formulaic after a while. Loved Furiously Happy – Jenny Lawson is a treasure. Reading her books have now gotten me hooked on The Bloggess. I check it every day now.

It’s been a few years since I read Brown so I’m less worried about the formula. I haven’t checked Lawson’s site in a while but it’s always good for a laugh. Happy reading!

Bernadette was a great audiobook! I rarely listen to them, but that was a winner. I really enjoy Dan Brown and have had Origin waiting forever to be read. It’s on my list to read this year (trying to read more of my own books and less ARCs). Enjoy! HATED Bernadette…and it looks like I was the only one who did. LOL Liked Valley of Amazement, which was good, but not Tan’s best. Will Grayson, Will Grayson was far from Green’s best as well. It’ll be interesting to see if we agree.

I’ve only read The Joy Luck Club by Tan before and liked it a lot. I’ve learned that John Green does not always do it for me so I’m going into this one with some skepticism. Happy reading!
