Recently Add to my To-Read Shelf

6 Sep

I’ve recently added three books to my “To-Read” Shelf on Goodreads. I wanted to see if any readers here had any opinions on them.

  1. Every Man for Himself by Beryl Bainbridge. I recently read another book by Bainbridge that I had some mixed feelings on. I read that the other book was unfinished when Bainbridge died and I felt that the sudden ending might have something to do with that. Every Man for Himself is about the Titanic, which I love, and if it’s what I hope for, will be in the same well-written style as Bainbridge’s other book, but have a more definitive ending which won’t leave me wanting to throw the book at my husband.
  2. The Invisible Bridge by Julie Orringer. This was recommended on my Book-A-Day calendar (that thing has recommended SOOO many books!) and sounded interesting. It’s seriously long, which is something of a deterrent, but is available as an audiobook at my library. This book tells the story of two young lovers during WWII, one of whom is a Jew. I have a suspicion it will have a sad ending.
  3. Survival in Auschwitz by Primo Levi. This book came as a Goodreads recommendation to me (yet another culprit of growing my To-Read shelf). I’m a big sucker for a well-written memoir and this seems to have some great reviews. It’s the story of a Holocaust survivor who was in Auschwitz. Kind of has a similar ring to The Invisible Bridge and I think it will be interesting to contrast the true story with the fictional story.

So there they are! My shelf is up to a whopping 82 books and as I add faster than I read, it’s not coming down any time soon. If you have any comments on these books or you want to lengthen my list any more with your own suggestions, please leave a comment! I’d love to hear from you.

I like the sound of the first book! Just added it to my to-read list… I currently have about 211 books on my list! I’ve very ambitious 🙂
