26 Oct

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived here on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading. So, let’s get to it!

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Note: For users of Blogspot blogs, I’m unable to comment on your posts as a WordPress blogger unless you’ve enabled Name/URL comments. This is a known WordPress/Blogspot issue. Please consider enabling this to participate more fully in the community.

Cat DancingCurrently reading: I think I got through one chapter of In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson. I’m still enjoying this one even though I’m going through it so slowly. I always read ebooks slowly so this is no surprise.
Still on hold with World Without End by Ken Follett. Ugh.
I was able to start Stiff by Mary Roach on Friday. I introduced my coworker to audiobooks and he wanted to start this one during a work trip to Cleveland. We got through almost three hours of it and I’m going to show him how to get books on his phone so he can finish it himself. Yay!
I started The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing by Marilyn Durham. It’s more of a Western than I was expecting which is wonderful. I don’t remember the last time I read a Western and I’m really enjoying it!
I started the audiobook of Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald by Therese Anne Fowler. This book focuses more on Zelda before the plot of Call Me Zelda so it will be interesting to listen to these two close to each other and compare the character.

bookofliesRecently finished: My book tidal wave came! I finished three this week. The Book of Lies by Brad Meltzer was my latest finished, earlier this week. It was fun to listen to a thriller but it always seems like some things are too convenient in this genre and it bothers me from time to time. Overall, enjoyable. My review will come next week.
I finished Call Me Zelda by Erika Robuck last Thursday. It was a little too over-dramatic for me at times and too slow at others. Overall, everything tied up well and I liked that but it wasn’t quite right for me. My review went up yesterday.
I finished Still Alice by Lisa Genova and have already watched the movie. Wow! The writing in this book was a little weak in places in my opinion, but the plot was great and I’m really amazed at Genova’s ability to write Alice. My review went up Monday.

Reading Next: I try not to do this, but I’m not going to put anything here this week. I’m just starting so many books, it’s hard to say when they’ll be over and I’m not anticipating anything just yet.

I have a class after work Wednesdays through November so please be patient with me due to delayed responses. I’m checking as often as I can.

Leave a comment with your link and a comment (if you’re so inclined). Take a look at the other participant links in the comments and look at what others are reading.

Have any opinions on these choices?

Until next time, write on.

You can follow me on GoodreadsFacebookTwitterPinterest, and Instagram. I’m available via email at SamAStevensWriter@gmail.com. And as always, feel free to leave a comment!

I’ve been wanting to read Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald…After reading Call Me Zelda, I wanted a different perspective on her life. I’ll be watching for your review.

    Here’s MY WWW POST

I’m almost through the first disk. It’s a very different Zelda to be sure, not entirely decided if it’s author, point in her life, or mental illness that makes her so different. Happy Wednesday!

Call Me Zelda definitely has my attention – have a great reading week! Here is my Wednesday post https://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2016/10/26/this-week-in-books-october-26/

I ended up giving it three stars. Happy Wednesday!

I’ll have to check those two books on Zelda. haven’t read anything on the Fitzgeralds in a long time.

I’m really enjoying Z so far. Happy Wednesday!

I really admire your ability to read so many books at once! I would never be able to coordinate all of them! Glad you managed to read so many books this week, that’s great!
    Here’s my post;

    • Sam October 26, 2016 at 5:22 PM #

The only way I’m able to get through anything is by having so many formats available to me! Happy Wednesday.

  5. sarinalangerwriter October 26, 2016 at 5:16 AM #

Enjoy your new books! It’s always exciting to start something new 🙂 Well done for making progress on In the Garden of Beasts, too!

I understand not getting through eBooks as quickly. This is exactly why I never read an eBook at the same time as a paperback – the paperback would definitely win my attention! 🙂

    Here’s my WWW: https://sarinalangerwriter.com/2016/10/26/www-wednesday-26th-october-2016/

    Happy reading, Sam! 🙂

    • Sam October 26, 2016 at 5:25 PM #

Haha, I always grab a paperback first. I’m hoping all of the books I’m starting now are finished in a spaced out manner. I don’t want all of them to fall at once again. Happy Wednesday!

I ended up giving it three stars. It was good, but not a new favorite. Happy Wednesday!

How do you manage to read more than one book at a time? Do you make progress on all at the same time or end up reading one to the end first? I always abandon one book if I try to read 2 at a time. Still Alice sounds great.

    Here’s my WWW:https://ahavenforbooklovers.wordpress.com/2016/10/26/www-wednesday-october-27th-2016/

    • Sam October 26, 2016 at 5:30 PM #

Since they’re in different formats, I make progress in them at different rate. I read a physical book before bed, an ebook at lunch, an audiobook in the car and an eaudio while running. Still Alice is very recommended. Happy Wednesday!

  9. alilovesbooks October 26, 2016 at 7:06 AM #

I love that you’ve converted your co worker to the joy of audio books. I can barely get anyone in my office to talk about books never mind persuading them to listen to one on a car journey with me. Weirdly, I’m not sure I’d want someone in the car with me listening to an audio book.

A nice selection of books… It makes sense not to share what you’ll read next when you have a number of books on the go – you don’t know where your mood will take you once you’ve finished those with bookmarks in.

I totally understand what you mean about certain aspects of Thrillers being a bit too convenient at times. It’s a shame when that happens but I’m glad you enjoyed the book overall.

Here’s my WWW Wednesday post 🙂

    • Sam October 26, 2016 at 5:39 PM #

It tied in Nazi’s and Superman in a really cool way. I liked at the end when the author talked about what was truth and what was stretched for fiction! Happy Wednesday.

I don’t blame you for not having anything up next – look at that huge list you’re currently reading! And congratulations for turning another person on to audio books. With the right narrator, they’ve proven to be quite good. Of course, the opposite is also unfortunately true, I’ve found.

Hi Sam…I am a first-time visitor to you blog…am a book lover and belong to 3 different book clubs in two different states (am a snowbird). I happened on this blog looking for info on Stedman’s book the Light Between the Oceans which you highly recommended.
I find blogs that do not “introduce” the blog author right at the top to be difficult and disconcerting. “Sam” is the name and then their is a photo of a woman…well, I can figure that out, of course. But am searching for more about you. I am sure with time I’ll find something. I am a blogspot blogger (art) and I will search to find out if I can change my setting so word press can comment. I didn’t know that was an issue. Thanks for sharing.
One of my other book groups (Nov 14) is discussing Eric Larson’s book Dead Wake. Do you have a review of that? ginny.stiles@gmail.com

    • Sam October 27, 2016 at 11:54 AM #

      Hi, Ginny.
Thanks for visiting my blog. I’m a big fan of book clubs as well. I have a page on my blog that introduces me, take a look at Introduction in the top menu. I’ve chosen to focus my personal details there to keep the focus of my blog more on books than me. I’ve heard Blogspot users need to allow anonymous comments for WordPress users to comment with Name/URL.
I read Dead Wake earlier this year, here’s the link: https://samannelizabeth.wordpress.com/2016/02/09/book-review-dead-wake-by-erik-larson-45/
      Happy reading!

Yes! There will be seven books for the seven brothers. Only the first is released but they’re by different authors and will all be released before the end of the year. It looks like one a week. Thanks for stopping by The Lair
