8 Mar

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived here on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading. So, let’s get to it!

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Note: For users of Blogspot blogs, I’m unable to comment on your posts as a WordPress blogger unless you’ve enabled Name/URL comments. This is a known WordPress/Blogspot issue. Please consider enabling this to participate more fully in the community.

libraryCurrently reading: No movement with Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs. This might sit on my list for a while.
I keeping creeping forward with The Book of Speculation by Erika Swyler. I’ve had to do a lot of reading for school during my lunch breaks so that hasn’t given me a lot of time there to read. I’m still enjoying it and hope to keep making forward progress.
I’ve made steady progress with The Mother Tongue by Bill Bryson. It keeps me interested during long runs, which is nice. I think I still have four hours left, though. It’s not great to listen to while cooking and cleaning so it’s been slower than I’d like.
It’s been slow going with Night Soldiers by Alan Furst. I wish this was moving faster, but I don’t like it enough to sit down and power through it. There’s something about the writing style which stays a little above the character’s feelings but rambles that’s slowing me down.

Recently finished: Nothing this week! I’m so sad to report that. I’m not even close on any of these books to think I’ll have one finished for next week. Maybe Bryson, but I’ll have to get in some long runs for that to happen!

I did post a review of You’re Not Doing It Right by Michael Ian Black. Please go check it out! I gave it 4 out of 5 Stars.

Reading Next: I still have nothing planned. I think I’m going to reward myself by picking a book off of my shelf that has been tempting me for a while. I have it narrowed down to two but I don’t want to commit yet! I think a short one will be welcomed after Night Soldiers.

Leave a comment with your link and a comment (if you’re so inclined). Take a look at the other participant links in the comments and look at what others are reading.

Have any opinions on these choices?

Until next time, write on.

I approve of taking something tempting off the shelf. I have to mix things up, short books after long ones, light ones after dark. Enjoy! Here’s MY WWW POST

Truth. There’s a shorter one that’s been staring at me for a few years now and I’m having trouble resisting the temptation any longer. Happy reading!

  2. cleopatralovesbooks at 2:06 AM #

I making sure I choose books from my own bookshelf at the moment which has proved to be a great success. Here is my Wednesday post https://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2017/03/08/this-week-in-books-march-8/

    • Sam at 5:20 PM #

I’m really enjoying it as well. I have a greater sense of accomplishment when I can move the book from my TBR to a ‘read’ shelf. It feels great. Happy reading!

  3. thereaderiswarned at 3:26 AM #

Great to be involved again! This week I look at some golden age classic, one new to me one old:

    • Sam at 5:21 PM #

I’m so terrible at reading classics, haha. I get bogged down in the style and have trouble enjoying the story. Happy reading!

Maybe you haven’t found the right one for you yet! There are so much good high quality detective fiction out there!

  4. I’m interested in the Bryson book – will have to look out for it. I should pick something off my TBR shelves too for my next read. Here’s my post for this week – http://www.booksplease.org/2017/03/08/my-week-in-books-8-march-2017/

    • Sam at 5:22 PM #

Bryson has a great style, I’m really enjoying him. If you can take something off your shelf, do! It feels so geat. Happy reading!

  5. sarinalangerwriter at 4:38 AM #

I’m not planning my next read just yet, either. I’ve got so many books on the go right now that it’ll take me a while to get through them, so there’s no point! I’ll probably do what you suggested and just pick a book I’ve been tempted by for a while when the time comes 🙂

    Here’s mine: https://sarinalangerwriter.com/2017/03/08/www-wednesday-8th-march-2017/

    Happy reading, everyone! 🙂

    • Sam at 5:23 PM #

Sometimes, thinking of my next read is stressful! I don’t need that stress in my life, haha. I want to enjoy my books more. Happy reading!

  6. alilovesbooks at 5:28 AM #

I’ve been enjoying reading whatever I feel like over the past couple of weeks so I definitely recommend picking up one of the books that have been calling to you from your shelf.

    • Sam at 5:25 PM #

Haha, awesome! Multiple on the go has been fun except when I neglect one and forget what was going on in it, haha. Happy reading!

  8. I’ve had a few of those weeks! I hope the Night Soldiers picks up a bit for you! I’ve had the Miss Peregrine’s series on my tbr for a while. I think it’s good not to plan your next read sometimes! It gives you a chance to pick the book that feels right at the time!

    Here’s my post:

    • Sam at 5:26 PM #

I got to a decent part of Night Soldiers last night and I’m hoping to take a big chunk out of it this weekend. I’m trying a ‘no TV’ ban on my self. We’ll see how long that lasts, haha. Happy reading!

I’d love to find some more time to read it. I have Spring Break next week so maybe I can get back to reading for fun during lunch instead of school. Happy reading!

I hear you! I’m getting around to my hectic point in the semester and even though I’ve been on spring break this week, I haven’t read as much as I’d like. I feel so burnt out from reading academic stuff that I’m not really in the mood to read for fun 😛

I like your idea of picking whichever book most appeals to you to read next! I always feel so pressured to read my books in a certain order!

    • Sam at 5:28 PM #

I’m usually the same way, I read what’s been on my TBR the longest. I’m feeling a bit wild now, haha. Going out of order is going to be scary but I think I’ll manage. Happy reading!

  12. ReadingMaria at 8:31 AM #

I’m glad to see that I’m not the only one who hasn’t completed much reading this week! 🙂

Here’s my post for this week:

    • Sam at 5:30 PM #

I’ve been looking forward to it because it did sound so good. I read another Soviet Russia spy novel a while ago that had a similar feel to this one, so maybe that’s just not a time period/genre I enjoy. Darn. Happy reading!

  16. 4thhouseontheleft at 10:14 AM #

I left my Reading Next section blank this week as well. Maybe it’s the time of year, but the two books that I am reading now may take a while, and I want to wait and see what I am in the mood to read next.

    Here’s my WWW: https://4thhouseontheleft.wordpress.com/2017/03/08/www-wednesday-8-march-2017/

    • Sam at 5:31 PM #

Exactly. It seems like there’s no light at the end of these books so thinking of the next one is too far off. Happy reading!

  17. anovelglimpse at 10:33 AM #

Hopefully, you’ll be able to finish something this week. It’s hard when you’re reading so many books at once and have a busy life.
    My WWW Wednesday.

    • Sam at 5:33 PM #

So true. This is my disadvantage to having so many going at once, haha. Happy reading!

I’m glad to know that you didn’t finish anything this week, too! I’m a rather slow reader and am impressed with how many books all of you get through so quickly. Sometimes it intimidates me but then I just remember that we’re all reading for ourselves and I sure enjoy what everyone shares.

    • Sam at 5:34 PM #

Exactly. I’m blown away at how fast some WWWers read. I can power through a good book, but I’m not a speed reader at all. Happy reading!

  19. I’ve tried twice to get into the Ransom Riggs trilogy and it just starts off so slow! Is it worth it? Here’s my WWW: https://youngatheart1blog.wordpress.com/2017/03/08/www-wednesday12/ 🙂

    • Sam at 5:36 PM #

I thought the first one was OK, the second one was not good for me, and the third so far is a lot like the second. There seems to be very little character development which is a downer for me. Happy reading! (though maybe not Riggs… haha)

  21. Kwizgiver at 12:10 PM #

I actually had a good week–I finished a long audio.

    • Sam at 5:37 PM #

That always feels like such a relief. Happy reading (and listening)!

I’m sorry you’re not making progress, but please don’t be too hard on yourself. We all have weeks or months or years like that. I really enjoyed Library of Souls. I listened to it on audio first and then read it in paperback.

  31. I have a hard time being truly spontaneous with what I’m reading. I always have some sort of plan going on in my head and rarely deviate from it unless NetGalley is involved! I may not the exact ORDER of what I’m going to read, but if I don’t plan at least a couple (or 50) choices in advance I’ll spend days debating with myself 🙂
