Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at Should be Reading and revived here on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading. So, let’s get to it!
The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
Note: For users of Blogspot blogs, I’m unable to comment on your posts as a WordPress blogger unless you’ve enabled Name/URL comments. This is a known WordPress/Blogspot issue. Please consider enabling this to participate more fully in the community.
Currently reading: I’ still making my way through Harry Potter y el misterio del príncipe (Half-Blood Prince) by J.K. Rowling and thoroughly enjoying it. There’s so much I’d forgotten about and I’m having a great time reading it all again.
Unfortunately, still on hold with A Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin. I’m not happy about it. Urg.
I think I read three pages of In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson. This is just the nature of me and ebooks, we’ll see how it goes.
I’m getting worried about finishing Child 44 by Tom Rob Smith before my book club meets. It’s really not a book for me, I’m not a fan of the thriller genre and this narrator is still grating on me with terrible Russian accents. Blah.
I’m enjoying Silver Sparrow by Tayari Jones while I wait to get Martin back. I was hoping to put this one aside and finish Martin if I got the hold back quickly, but it doesn’t look like that is going to happen. Sigh.
Recently finished: I’m sad to say I haven’t finished anything! I need to buckle down and focus on some of these books but my semester will be over in another two weeks and I’ll be a lot more available then… until the next semester starts. Ugh.
I posted my review of Texts from Jane Eyre by Mallory Ortberg. A lot of you were asking about that so go check it out!
Reading Next: I’m still planning on The Virgin Blue by Tracey Chevalier. I’ll put Potter aside for this one so my ‘currently reading’ list is only going to grow, much to my chagrin. I put too many things on hold. Ugh.
Leave a comment with your link and a comment (if you’re so inclined). Take a look at the other participant links in the comments and look at what others are reading.
Have any opinions on these choices?
Until next time, write on.
You can follow me on Goodreads, Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram. I’m available via email at SamAStevensWriter@gmail.com. And as always, feel free to leave a comment!
Hey Sam, hello from Sam 🙂
I hope you enjoy the rest of half blood prince as well as The Virgin Blue.

Enjoyed your comment about Child 44. My young nephew and I were just talking about our relationships with our books and I said for me it was chemistry, like falling in love. It can be a well-written, carefully-crafted book that doesn’t grip me, just like I can have a date with a perfectly nice man but not feel “it.” Sounds like you and Child 44 just aren’t feeling “it.”
This week I’ve got a massive biography and a series of short mysteries.

That’s a good way to put it. I don’t think I’ll have it finished by book club on Monday. Oh well. Happy Wednesday!

I’m in the same boat as you, I haven’t finished anything, either 🙂 You’re reading several books at once, though, so I think you can be excused 😉

My end of semester exams start in a week and then the next semester starts immediately after exams so I get what you mean. All the best with Uni though.
I got Texts from Jane Eyre after reading your review of it. I hope to enjoy it although I haven’t read a number of books featured in it. Silver Sparrow sounds very interesting. I was intrigued by the author’s name when I first read your post. Tayari is a Swahili word meaning ready 🙂 Just read the synopsis though and definitely adding it to my TBR.

Thanks for letting me know about the translation of the author’s name! What a cool choice. I hope you enjoy the Texts. I didn’t get all of them, but the ones I was familiar with were pretty funny. Happy Wednesday!

I often get irritated when an author “writes out” stereotypical accents. Sometimes it works, other times it’s just annoying and you wish they’d just report their speech normally and tell us in a tag that the speaker has an accent!
I hope you find The Virgin Blue up to Chevalier’s standards 🙂

I wonder if the accents were written or if it’s the choice of the narrator. I hope it’s the narrator, to be honest. It would make me like the book better! Happy Wednesday.

Oh yuck. Writing out accents can be nice… sometimes. But when it’s just super stereotypical and grating and poorly done it just takes you out of the story 😦

I’m not sure how much it’s the author writing it or the narrator reading it that way. I hope it’s the former! Happy Wednesday.

I find it difficult to read ebooks. It takes me so much longer than a normal book. Not sure why. Glad it’s not just me 🙂
I love rereading Harry Potter. I’m actually hoping to read them in French for the first time this year. We’ll see if I can get to it under the pile of TBR I’m currently drowning in 😉
Thanks for hosting this! It’s so great to share the love of reading 🙂

It’s not a bad thing to be reading a lot of books, but it does look like you’re biting off a lot right now. I hope you get Clash of Kings back soon, and good luck with the ebook. At least it’s an author you like, so maybe that’ll help.

Maybe you should ditch Child 44 and watch the movie instead before your book club meets; somewhat cheating but at least you’ll have a good idea of what happens. Nothing worse than slogging on with a book you don’t like 😉

I get annoyed when authors write in accents. I’d much prefer that they just write it “normally” and mention that the character had an accent. I can’t wait for this semester to end – then I’ll be out of school until September and will have so much more time to read!
