30 Nov

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This meme was formerly hosted by MizB at A Daily Rhythm and revived here on Taking on a World of Words. Just answer the three questions below and leave a link to your post in the comments for others to look at. No blog? No problem! Just leave a comment with your responses. Please, take some time to visit the other participants and see what others are reading. So, let’s get to it!

The Three Ws are:

What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

Note: For users of Blogspot blogs, I’m unable to comment on your posts as a WordPress blogger unless you’ve enabled Name/URL comments. This is a known WordPress/Blogspot issue. Please consider enabling this to participate more fully in the community.

breakoutCurrently reading: I got World Without End by Ken Follett back! I started listening to it on Friday during my run and I’m beyond excited to keep listening. I hope to finish it this time, but there’s a lot going on between now and when it returns again.
I’ve only read a bit of The Birthday Boys by Beryl Bainbridge. Again, as an ebook, I don’t tend to read these quickly. It helps that I own this one and won’t have to continue to check it out every three weeks!
I picked up Writing the Breakout Novel by Donald Maass on Sunday and I plan to start applying it to my novel-in-progress in December and January. I’m not sure how much of it will be fun to apply and how much of it will frustrate me and make me want to pull my hair out, haha.

paranoidRecently finished: I finished Only the Paranoid Survive by Andrew S. Grove Sunday morning. It wasn’t as informative as I’d hoped it would be. The advice applies better to senior level managers and since I’m only at the entry-level point of my career, I’m not sure how much of it I’ll use and I’ll likely forget the important parts when I would be ready to use it. Oh well.
I finished The Tempest by William Shakespeare on Friday before I started back up with Follett. It was hard to follow while running, which is the first time I’ve said that. Usually I have no trouble but I found I needed to picture the actors moving across a stage and it was hard for  me to do that and not run off the side of the road.

onceuponReading Next: It’s likely going to be Once Upon a River by Bonnie Jo Campbell, my book club’s January pick. I have another book club book coming up soon so I better start in on these and make sure I get them both done in time!

Leave a comment with your link and a comment (if you’re so inclined). Take a look at the other participant links in the comments and look at what others are reading.

Have any opinions on these choices?

Until next time, write on.

Not being great with audio books I can only imagine how hard it was to follow The Tempest while running. Here is my Wednesday post for this week. https://cleopatralovesbooks.wordpress.com/2016/11/30/this-week-in-books-november-30/

    • Sam November 30, 2016 at 8:31 PM #

Haha, I would think I was doing well with it and then realize I didn’t even know who was on stage. Happy Wednesday!

I’ve been meaning to read something by Beryl Bainbridge. I hope you enjoy all of your picks, and here’s MY WWW POST

    • Sam November 30, 2016 at 8:33 PM #

Thanks! I got through a few more pages at lunch. I’ll make it soon. Happy Wednesday!

I’m intrigued by Writing the Breakout Novel – I’ll have to look into that one. It sounds like you’ve been reading a mixed bag of books lately. Happy reading!

    • Sam November 30, 2016 at 8:35 PM #

A writer friend of mine recommended the Maass book and it’s been really engaging so far. Happy Wednesday!

  4. rosebooks November 30, 2016 at 4:34 AM #

I been wanting to read a book by William Shakespeare. I hope I can find a book by him in our bargain book store soon.
Anyway here is my WWW Wednesday post: https://rosebooksblog.wordpress.com/2016/11/30/www-wednesday-30th-november-2016/

I would think it can’t be too hard but his books are all considered classics, haha. Happy Wednesday!

But it’s still hard! Hahahaha. Happy Wednesday! 😊

Yay for having Ken Follett back!

I’m so used to having five or six books on the go at once, it seems strange seeing only three. 😛

    Here’s my WWW.

    • Sam November 30, 2016 at 8:40 PM #

Haha, I kept thinking my Goodreads shelf was wrong, but it’s only three right now! That’s my minimum so don’t expect it to drop. Happy Wednesday!

Congrats on finally getting the Ken Follet. Have to admit I’ve never tried running and listening to an audio book but I doubt it would go well. I’m usually concentrating on keeping breathing when I exercise 🙂

    Here’s my WWW: https://iwuvbooks.wordpress.com/2016/11/30/www-wednesday-30th-november-2016/

    • Sam November 30, 2016 at 8:42 PM #

I used to have trouble with breathing and gasping but I found music made it worse which is why I switched to books. I’m not worried about a tempo with books. Happy Wednesday!

I keep meaning to read some Beryl Bainbridge too… more for the list!
And I’m not surprised you couldn’t follow The Tempest while running! I couldn’t follow anything beyond simple lyrics, so I applaud you for listening to anything more complicated while exercising 🙂

    Here’s my WWW: https://clairehuston.wordpress.com/2016/11/30/www-wednesday-30th-november-2016/

    • Sam November 30, 2016 at 8:45 PM #

This is my third Bainbridge and I know now to pay close attention when I read her. She usually throws in real historical characters and some references to the beginning of the novel toward the end that you have to pay close attention to or you’ll miss completely. Happy Wednesday!

I think if I was listening to The Tempest whilst running I would definitely be running in zig zags and right into the road – it would be a nightmare! It’s one of my favourite Shakespeare plays though!
    Here’s my WWW Wednesday: http://dualreads.blogspot.co.uk/2016/11/wednesday-catch-up-30th-november-2016.html

I’d really like to see it live and get a better idea of it. Do you know if there’s a movie version? I don’t know where I’d see it around me. Happy Wednesday!

I have a couple of works in progress so I’m interested in Writing the Breakout Novel. I’ll have to look into that one. Here’s my WWW Wednesday:

    • Sam November 30, 2016 at 8:54 PM #

Fingers crossed! I’m listening every chance I get because it’s so long. Happy Wednesday!

I’m impressed with the reading of Shakespeare while running! I prefer my Shakespeare in a leather armchair. 😃

    • Sam November 30, 2016 at 8:54 PM #

I prefer it in a theater seat, haha. Hey, it’s a way to utilize my time. Happy Wednesday!

  12. hmills96 November 30, 2016 at 8:30 AM #

Are you going to read Hag-Seed now that you’ve read Tempest? http://ilayreading.com/2016/11/30/www-wednesday-11302016/

    • Sam November 30, 2016 at 8:56 PM #

I haven’t heard of Hag-Seed. Is it a retelling of some sort? Happy Wednesday!

      • hmills96 November 30, 2016 at 8:58 PM #

Yep! It’s a modern retelling, plus they actually do the play. So it’s tempestception.

I struggled to follow a Shakespeare play when it was being acted out in front of me at the RSC so brave effort listening to an audio book whilst running. You seem to have all our admiration on this!

I think I would run off the road too! Sometimes I get too distracted doing other things when I’m listening to an audiobook, so those are the format I get through very slowly.

    • Sam November 30, 2016 at 9:02 PM #

I listen a lot so I tend to get through them fast. It’s ebooks I struggle to get through! Happy Wednesday!
